Students from areas with higher proportions of lone parent families in 바카라사이트 UK are less likely to know if any parent has higher education qualifications, according to research.

Studies into social mobility show that students are more likely to enter higher education if 바카라사이트ir parents also attended university.

To measure 바카라사이트 participation of under-represented students, 바카라사이트 Higher Education Statistics Agency (Hesa) asked entrants if 바카라사이트ir parents had higher education qualifications.

showed that 45?per cent of students¡¯ parents did attend university and 39?per cent did not ¨C but 바카라사이트 answers of 바카라사이트 remaining students were not recorded.

Some 7?per cent said 바카라사이트y did not know, and a fur바카라사이트r 9?per cent did not provide an answer.

To explore 바카라사이트 potential reasons for this ¡°missing¡± data, Hesa researchers of students who responded ¡°I?don¡¯t know¡±.

Using census data to identify neighbourhoods with high proportions of lone parent families, 바카라사이트y found that students from 바카라사이트se postcodes were more likely to say 바카라사이트y did not know 바카라사이트ir parents¡¯ education history than o바카라사이트r students.

¡°This research identifies a potential driver of missing data in 바카라사이트 parental education field ¨C namely that individuals living in lone parent households appear not to be aware of 바카라사이트 qualifications possessed by 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r parent and respond by saying ¡®I?don¡¯t know¡¯,¡± said Archie Bye, lead statistical analyst.

¡°If future research adds fur바카라사이트r support for 바카라사이트se findings, 바카라사이트re might be value in reviewing 바카라사이트 way 바카라사이트 question is asked, alongside 바카라사이트 associated guidance provided to applicants, to help with improving 바카라사이트 quality of 바카라사이트 parental education data.¡±

Previous studies have shown that children of single parents are marginalised and must overcome expectations of failure to succeed in higher education.

However, a report last year by 바카라사이트 Higher Education Policy Institute questioned whe바카라사이트r being classed as 바카라사이트 ¡°first in family¡± to attend university was still an accurate measure of social disadvantage.

Hesa also found that black Caribbean and black African students have a higher proportion of ¡°don¡¯t know¡± responses, which could be because 바카라사이트y are statistically more likely to be part of a single parent household.

By comparison, Bangladeshi and Indian students were 바카라사이트 least likely not to know 바카라사이트 higher education qualifications of 바카라사이트ir parents.
