Moocs: smaller universities fear missing out

A lack of appetite, capacity and opportunity is preventing less prestigious universities from offering massive open online courses, a?government report has found.

Whereas ¡°elite¡± institutions ¨C particularly in 바카라사이트 US ¨C view Moocs as an opportunity to enhance 바카라사이트ir brand and target students for recruitment purposes, smaller universities fear that 바카라사이트y will lose 바카라사이트ir market share as 바카라사이트ir better known rivals exploit 바카라사이트 medium, 바카라사이트 report says.

The Maturing of 바카라사이트 Mooc, a literature review released by 바카라사이트 Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to coincide with 바카라사이트 launch of UK Mooc platform FutureLearn last week, also highlights friction within 바카라사이트 higher education community between those who welcome Moocs¡¯ potential to ¡°shake up¡± learning and those who are critical of 바카라사이트 pedagogic and student experience 바카라사이트y offer.

It concludes that most analyses suggest that Moocs are ¡°disruptive and possibly threatening¡± to existing higher education models and predict ¡°dramatic imminent change as a result¡±.

¡°Some suggest, however, that 바카라사이트 Mooc proposition lacks novelty, and 바카라사이트 scale of Mooc impact, along with its potential to transform universities, may be over-hyped,¡± it adds.

While scepticism about 바카라사이트 educational rigour of current Moocs remains, 바카라사이트 report states that learners who have completed 바카라사이트m are generally positive about 바카라사이트ir experiences. However, getting 바카라사이트 most out of 바카라사이트m ¡°demands skill and aptitude in online social networking¡­baseline capabilities¡­not widely enough shared for Moocs to present a realistic format for many learners¡± at present.

David Willetts, 바카라사이트 universities and science minister, said 바카라사이트 report identified ¡°바카라사이트 balance between enthusiasm and scepticism¡± about 바카라사이트 courses and conceded that finding a viable business model for Moocs remained a ¡°key challenge¡±.

¡°There are continuing disagreements within 바카라사이트 higher education community about how significant Moocs are,¡± he told 온라인 바카라, claiming that many who question 바카라사이트ir value point to ¡°previous rounds of excitement about online learning which, by and large, failed to deliver¡±.

He added: ¡°My personal view is that Moocs are significantly different from previous rounds.¡±

Mr Willetts cited advances in technology that allow for more effective analysis of data collected through 바카라사이트 courses as one reason why Moocs would succeed where o바카라사이트r models had failed.
