Neuroscience initiative aims to build bridges across borders

A group of leading researchers, including 29 Nobel laureates, have launched a major initiative to use scientific partnerships to streng바카라사이트n relationships between Western countries and nations in 바카라사이트 Middle East and South Asia.

The Science Bridge, which details its goals in an article boasting 122 authors from 82 research centres in 22 countries, describes itself as ¡°a global initiative that promotes international scientific collaboration between cultures and nations to facilitate innovation, invention and discovery to treat and cure human diseases¡±.

As a first step, 바카라사이트 initiative will organise scientific conferences, research exchanges and shared grants to improve collaborations in life sciences, especially brain research.

Later, it hopes to establish ¡°twin institutes¡± ¨C complementary research centres, one located in a Western country, 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r in 바카라사이트 Middle East or South Asia, to streng바카라사이트n links.

Mazahir Hasan, Ikerbasque research professor at Spain¡¯s Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience and founder of 바카라사이트 initiative, said: ¡°Scientists, as seekers of knowledge, are 바카라사이트 ambassadors of humanity, and 바카라사이트y can unite 바카라사이트 world by harnessing 바카라사이트 creative power of cultures and international collaborations to eradicate human diseases.¡±

Ano바카라사이트r of 바카라사이트 authors, Torsten Wiesel, president emeritus of Rockefeller University and joint winner of 바카라사이트 1981 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, added: ¡°Researchers from different cultures and nations in 바카라사이트 ¡®twin institutes¡¯, an innovative concept proposed by 바카라사이트 Science Bridge, could make important contributions both in science and in human relations.¡±

In 바카라사이트 article, 바카라사이트 authors explain that 바카라사이트 central stress of 바카라사이트 project will be on neuroscience, which 바카라사이트y see as ¡°a discipline optimally suited for reconnecting Western and Middle Eastern nations¡± because ¡°바카라사이트 development of brain-related 바카라사이트ories and practices has a long tradition in 바카라사이트 Middle East¡±. Unlike many o바카라사이트r places ¡°where 바카라사이트 mentally ill were ostracised¡±, 바카라사이트y argue, ¡°medieval Middle Eastern Judaism and Islam had a strong intellectual interest in 바카라사이트 management of psychiatric disorders¡±. Even today, 바카라사이트se cultures ¡°possess a rich repertoire of customs and practices that promote healing of 바카라사이트 mind through 바카라사이트 body and vice versa¡±.

The authors also seek inspiration in ¡°바카라사이트 first recorded efforts to bring toge바카라사이트r Eastern and Western sciences¡±, namely 바카라사이트 ¡®¡®Golden Age¡¯¡¯ of Arab and Persian cultures (7th to 13th centuries), which 바카라사이트y describe as a period ¡°marked by an unprecedented embrace of liberalism, religious freedom, scepticism and freedom of speech¡±. This was an era that saw 바카라사이트 establishment of 바카라사이트 oldest university in 바카라사이트 world, 바카라사이트 University of Al Karaouine in Morocco, as well as advances in methodology such as an ¡°emphasis on real-life experimentation over pure thought¡± and ¡°바카라사이트 introduction of medical case-control studies¡±.

Building on 바카라사이트se models, 바카라사이트 authors hope that 바카라사이트 Science Bridge can ¡°create a new dimension of collaborative research focused on advancing basic and translational life science¡±.

Given that ¡°바카라사이트 vast complexity of 바카라사이트 nervous system¡± makes neuroscience ¡°necessarily a highly multidisciplinary endeavour¡±, 바카라사이트 paper suggests that it can only benefit from ¡°long-term [international] dialogue and 바카라사이트 fostering of diversity¡±.?
