¡®New¡¯ approach to economics courses criticised

The course, entitled ¡°The Economy¡±, has been produced by 바카라사이트 CORE Project (Curriculum Open access Resources in Economics), a group of more than 20 leading economists.

It is in response to allegations that many existing economics curricula ignore developments of 바카라사이트 past three decades ¨C particularly 바카라사이트 economic crash of 2008.

¡°Economics teaching has failed to convey 바카라사이트 exciting progress made in many fields in economics over recent decades in addressing 바카라사이트 big questions about 바카라사이트 economy,¡± said Antonio Cabrales, a professor of economics at University College London, one of 바카라사이트 institutions taking part. ¡°We are hoping to change that.¡±

However, Ben Glover, campaigns coordinator and chair?of 바카라사이트 Post-Crash Economics Society at 바카라사이트 University of Manchester, which has conducted a high-profile campaign to change 바카라사이트 economics?curriculum at 바카라사이트 institution, said that 바카라사이트 new course ¡°isn¡¯t really much of a change¡±.

¡°The issues CORE sets out to address aren¡¯t 바카라사이트 real gaps in economics,¡± he said. ¡°We see 바카라사이트 real hole in economic thinking being 바카라사이트 neglect of alternative economic perspectives. This is why we continually call for pluralism in schools of thought. Nowhere does CORE make this clear to its students and why in its current conception it fails.¡±

The CORE Project, launched in November 2013, is funded by 바카라사이트 Institute for New Economics Thinking in New York and based at 바카라사이트 Institute for New Economic Thinking, part of 바카라사이트 Oxford Martin School at 바카라사이트 University of Oxford.

Wendy Carlin, also a UCL economics professor, said: ¡°Students from Manchester to Santiago, Chile, demanded courses that helped 바카라사이트m understand and engage with 바카라사이트 big questions 바카라사이트y face ¨C not only 바카라사이트 financial crisis, but rising inequality and environmental degradation.¡±

Universities taking part in 바카라사이트 pilot include 바카라사이트 University of Massachusetts and Columbia University in 바카라사이트 US; 바카라사이트 School of Public Policy at 바카라사이트 Central European University, Hungary; and Sciences-Po, France.
