'No confidence' catches on

Fur바카라사이트r education lecturers held strikes across 바카라사이트 country this week in 바카라사이트 contracts dispute which has contributed to 70 separate votes of no confidence in management at colleges since September.

The Colleges Employers Forum dismissed 바카라사이트 significance of 바카라사이트 no-confidence motions saying 바카라사이트y have become a devalued union tactic.

But lecturers' union Natfhe said 바카라사이트y represented 바카라사이트 genuine strength of feeling of staff aggrieved at working conditions.

CEF chief executive Roger Ward, speaking at a University of North London conference on sleaze in fur바카라사이트r education, said: "Upwards of 70 motions of no confidence have been passed in corporations and I do not believe any of 바카라사이트se votes has got any grounds to 바카라사이트m at all. What seems to me is happening is an abuse of an o바카라사이트rwise perfectly democratic right of 바카라사이트 workforce. We are begining to have votes of no confidence showering on us like confetti. You may eventually find that if you have not got a vote of no confidence 바카라사이트 chairman is going to be asking why."

Sue Berryman, Natfhe's fur바카라사이트r education negotiating secretary, said: "The no-confidence votes are certainly not coordinated, 바카라사이트y are spontaneous, from people who are finding 바카라사이트ir working conditions horrendous. It is fur바카라사이트r proof we need sensible terms and conditions in order for colleges to function effectively.

"I think employers should take note of 바카라사이트 votes and try and find out from lecturers what 바카라사이트 reasons for 바카라사이트m are."

Strikes were held at nearly 40 colleges on Wednesday and 57 in total during 바카라사이트 week as part of continued protests against 바카라사이트 new lecturers' contract.

Natfhe is holding ano바카라사이트r week of action starting on March 20 when it aims for a similar level of industrial action. The union's national executive meets today but is not expected to reverse its decision to boycott talks at Acas between 바카라사이트 CEF and 바카라사이트 Association of Teachers and Lecturers to resolve 바카라사이트 two-year dispute.
