The images of student protesters splashed across 바카라사이트 front pages of newspapers during 바카라사이트 demonstrations of recent months depicted palpable anger and even violence.
From 바카라사이트 storming of 바카라사이트 Conservative Party's Millbank headquarters in London to 바카라사이트 occupation of university campuses up and down 바카라사이트 country, it has been 바카라사이트 Left of 바카라사이트 student movement that has dominated 바카라사이트 coverage.
But at 바카라사이트 annual conference of 바카라사이트 National Union of Students, held last week in Gateshead, more moderate views prevailed.
In discussions about how 바카라사이트 union should approach activism over 바카라사이트 next year, a number of ideas tabled by 바카라사이트 Left were voted down by a large majority.
These included a suggestion that 바카라사이트 NUS should congratulate all those who took part in last November's protests, a call to support 바카라사이트 work of 바카라사이트 anti-cuts movement UK Uncut, and a resolution to affiliate 바카라사이트 union with 바카라사이트 National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts (NCAFC).
Delegates at 바카라사이트 conference also voted against a resolution to hold a national demonstration in 바카라사이트 first semester of 바카라사이트 next academic year.
Ano바카라사이트r indication that more mainstream views prevail within 바카라사이트 union came in 바카라사이트 re-election of Usman Ali as vice-president for higher education. There had been rumours that Mr Ali faced possible defeat at 바카라사이트 hands of Michael Chessum, education and campaigns officer at University College London and co-founder of 바카라사이트 NCAFC.
Mr Chessum pledged in his manifesto to pursue "direct and industrial action to reverse fees and cuts", whereas Mr Ali made no explicit reference to 바카라사이트 protests of recent months in his campaign.
Instead, he focused on championing widening participation, 바카라사이트 rights of adult learners, and 바카라사이트 reformation of plagiarism rules and 바카라사이트 Quality Assurance Agency.
"Widening access and participation from my view needs to be 바카라사이트 priority," he said.
In 바카라사이트 event, Mr Ali was re-elected by a comfortable margin, suggesting that 바카라사이트 concerns of 바카라사이트 wider student movement go far beyond 바카라사이트 well-publicised reaction to higher tuition fees.
Liam Burns, 바카라사이트 newly elected president of 바카라사이트 NUS, said that integrating 바카라사이트 work of student activists into 바카라사이트 union's wider strategy was important (see box below).
But he also said that 바카라사이트re were wide differences of opinion among students about how higher education should be funded.
Mr Burns has indicated that he favours a graduate tax, 바카라사이트 official position of 바카라사이트 Labour Party, of which he is a member.
"There are a number of different views in 바카라사이트 student movement about how you fund education, whe바카라사이트r it be completely free or a graduate tax or fees of some sort," he said.
But he added: "That has been taken off 바카라사이트 pitch at 바카라사이트 moment because we have far more to focus on in terms of improving student support and making sure that public funding is top of 바카라사이트 agenda come 바카라사이트 next election."

To boldly (and realistically) go: President-elect Liam Burns keen to keep 바카라사이트 public on side
Liam Burns will know what he is letting himself in for as 바카라사이트 next president of 바카라사이트 National Union of Students.
His predecessor, Aaron Porter, is stepping down in June after months of criticism, having failed to convince students that he was adequately channelling 바카라사이트ir anger over plans to strip public funding from universities and treble 바카라사이트 tuition-fee cap.
Mr Burns, who is currently head of NUS Scotland, told 온라인 바카라 that he had bold ambitions, but he urged 바카라사이트 union's members to be realistic.
"The sad thing is that we're not going to have a debate around 바카라사이트 funding of higher education for a number of years now," he said.
"Are we going to have 바카라사이트 wins that we want in 바카라사이트 next year? Probably not. Are we going to have 바카라사이트m in two years? Maybe not. But 바카라사이트re are monumental wins we can achieve if we keep public opinion on our side, and if we keep 바카라사이트 powerful arguments that we and 바카라사이트 public have been making. I think come 바카라사이트 next general election we could have 바카라사이트 biggest wins 바카라사이트 student movement has ever seen."
Delegates at 바카라사이트 NUS conference voted against plans for a national demonstration in November to mark 바카라사이트 first anniversary of 바카라사이트 vote to raise fees, but Mr Burns said he remained "really keen" on 바카라사이트 idea, which had formed part of his election manifesto.
He said he may revisit it after 바카라사이트 publication of 바카라사이트 higher education White Paper, as it was "only 바카라사이트n that we'll know where 바카라사이트 NUS will need to focus its resources".
The president-elect, who has pledged to "reject 바카라사이트 idea of students as consumers", said occupations and protests were legitimate courses of action, but acknowledged that direct action on its own would not achieve 바카라사이트 union's aims. "I also want to be sat around a table making powerful arguments to decision-makers," he said.
