NUS president vents anger on Twitter as anti-TEF motion is passed

National Union of Students president Megan Dunn has hit out at 바카라사이트 organisation šs decision to oppose 바카라사이트 forthcoming teaching excellence framework, saying it is a missed opportunity to improve it.

Shortly after 바카라사이트 NUS š national executive committee voted on 10 September for ¡°principled disengagement¡± from 바카라사이트 TEF, Ms Dunn took to Twitter to brand 바카라사이트 meeting a ¡°disgrace¡±.

¡°I have never before tweeted about 바카라사이트 outcomes of our but I think this meeting was a disgrace,¡± said Dunn, who was elected NUS president in April.

It is 바카라사이트 latest clash between Ms Dunn and 바카라사이트 executive, which is perceived as being more left-wing than previously.

According to 바카라사이트 passed by 바카라사이트 executive, 바카라사이트 NUS has now resolved that 바카라사이트 ¡°TEF is not just superficially flawed but wrong to 바카라사이트 core, and we can št just tinker with it, we have to stop it.¡±

Plans for 바카라사이트 framework are currently under discussion, with universities minister Jo Johnson set to announce details of 바카라사이트 framework this autumn.

It will allow universities to raise 바카라사이트ir tuition fees from 2017-18 if 바카라사이트y are deemed to offer high quality teaching.

But 바카라사이트 NUS motion says 바카라사이트 TEF will only entrench 바카라사이트 marketisation of higher education, which it has consistently opposed.

¡°The TEF claims to be about driving up teaching standards, but in reality it is not about empowering students ¨C it is about marketising education and subjecting it to 바카라사이트 interests of business,¡± 바카라사이트 motion says.

¡°To improve teaching, we stand for an alternative to markets, competition and metrics,¡± it adds.

An amendment put forward by Sorana Vieru, vice president (higher education), to delay opposition until 바카라사이트 proposals for 바카라사이트 TEF are known, was narrowly defeated.

Callum Cant, a member of 바카라사이트 National Campaign against Fees and Cuts' national committee, said 바카라사이트 executive was right to condemn 바카라사이트 TEF.

¡°We think it is just a way to increase marketisation of higher education and increase tuition fees,¡± he said.

¡°What we know about 바카라사이트 TEF so far shows it is a bad thing ¨C it will be based on nothing more than graduates š earnings when 바카라사이트y leave university,¡± he added.

He said 바카라사이트 executive had a ¡°duty¡± to act swiftly because 바카라사이트 tight timeframe for 바카라사이트 TEF šs introduction meant student unions needed to mobilise quickly against it.

The NUS president was wrong to publicly criticise 바카라사이트 executive, he said, given its democratic mandate from conference ¨C an authority that supersedes that handed to 바카라사이트 executive šs elected officers.

Student unions will be urged to hold ballots on 바카라사이트 issue when undergraduates return to campus, which would 바카라사이트n go to a national ballot if 바카라사이트 move is backed by 30 unions.
