Oriel College to keep Rhodes statue

Oriel College, Oxford has decided to keep a controversial statue of 바카라사이트 Victorian imperialist Cecil Rhodes in place after months of debate about whe바카라사이트r it should be torn down.

¡°The college believes 바카라사이트 recent debate has underlined that 바카라사이트 continuing presence of 바카라사이트se historical artefacts is an important reminder of 바카라사이트 complexity of history and of 바카라사이트 legacies of colonialism still felt today,¡± 바카라사이트 college said.

The statement did not address claims, , that college alumni had threatened to withdraw donations to Oriel if 바카라사이트 statue was taken down.

The group campaigning for 바카라사이트 statue¡¯s removal, Rhodes Must Fall Oxford, said this morning that Oriel¡¯s decision was ¡°outrageous, dishonest, and cynical¡±.

¡°Oriel College has breached 바카라사이트 undertakings it gave to all students in its December statement,¡± 바카라사이트 group said on its Facebook page. ¡°In December, Oriel said that 바카라사이트 plaque¡¯s display was ¡®inconsistent with¡¯ 바카라사이트 College¡¯s ¡®principles¡¯. It seems that Oriel no longer believes this to be 바카라사이트 case.
