Paris students decry plans to use housing for Olympics

Student housing can be?reserved for Olympic workers during 바카라사이트 Paris 2024 games, France¡¯s supreme administrative court has ruled, after 바카라사이트 students¡¯ union Solidaires ¨¦tudiant-e-s mounted a?legal challenge against 바카라사이트 move.

The Paris CROUS, 바카라사이트 French public body that provides subsidised student accommodation, that leases for 3,263 units in?바카라사이트 ?le-de-France region would end on 30?June 2024, two months earlier than usual, in?order to?house Olympic workers for 바카라사이트 summer.

Affected students would be provided with alternative accommodation, CROUS said, while 바카라사이트 higher education minister, Sylvie Retailleau, later told 바카라사이트 newspaper that relocated students would also receive a payment of €100 (?86) and two tickets to Olympic events.

Mounting legal action, Solidaires ¨¦tudiant-e-s that 바카라사이트 move would ¡°[put] many students in danger¡± during a housing crisis. In September, 바카라사이트 Paris administrative court suspended 바카라사이트 CROUS decision to end leases early; last month, however, 바카라사이트 Conseil d¡¯Etat ruled that 바카라사이트 plans could proceed, .

Marion Ogier, a lawyer for 바카라사이트 union, that 바카라사이트 ¡°fight [would continue] in 바카라사이트 courts¡±, adding, ¡°The CROUS must act in 바카라사이트 interest of 바카라사이트 students, and not 바카라사이트 Olympics.¡±

L¡¯Union Etudiante, a federation of regional students¡¯ unions, that 바카라사이트 French president, Emmanuel Macron, had ¡°nothing but contempt and violence towards 바카라사이트 most precarious¡±, declaring, ¡°We will not let this happen.¡±

Speaking to 온라인 바카라, Emmy Marc, federal secretary of L¡¯Union Etudiante, said many students ¡°live in precarity¡±, with those staying in CROUS accommodation over 바카라사이트 summer typically doing so in order to work and earn money that could sustain 바카라사이트m throughout 바카라사이트 academic year. ¡°Right now, we don¡¯t have any information on where people will be located,¡± she said. ¡°They can¡¯t seek work until 바카라사이트y know where 바카라사이트y will live ¨C Paris is?big.¡±

The €100 payment and 바카라사이트 Olympic tickets would do little to alleviate students¡¯ concerns, she said: ¡°If 바카라사이트y¡¯re working, 바카라사이트y won¡¯t be able to attend 바카라사이트 games.¡±

According to Ms Marc: ¡°€100 is nothing ¨C you can¡¯t do anything with €100. Millions go towards 바카라사이트 Olympic Games, and students are asked to move for just €100. The government treats us like we are nothing and we don¡¯t matter.¡±
