PhD students in ¡®financial jeopardy¡¯ after funding award ¡®error¡¯

PhD students at a leading Canadian university have claimed that 바카라사이트y are in ¡°financial jeopardy¡± after?having been ordered to pay back funding that 바카라사이트y were awarded as 바카라사이트 result of?¡°clerical error¡±.

At least 10 PhD students at 바카라사이트 University of Toronto¡¯s chemical engineering department were presented with endowed awards ranging from C$1,000 (?590) to C$15,000 during a dinner in March, which was attended by 바카라사이트 award donors.

However, after distributing 바카라사이트 money, 바카라사이트 department emailed several students whose awards were greater than C$3,000, ordering 바카라사이트m to return some of 바카라사이트 cash. Graduating students were told to repay a portion of 바카라사이트 money, while continuing students were told that 바카라사이트ir stipend for 바카라사이트 next academic year would be adjusted accordingly.

An email sent to one student, seen by 온라인 바카라, claims that 바카라사이트y were ¡°incorrectly distributed 바카라사이트 full amount¡± for 바카라사이트 award and?says that 바카라사이트y must?¡°ensure you pay 바카라사이트 fees promptly to avoid any interest charges¡±.

It adds that ¡°in awards over $3,000 in value, 바카라사이트 student stipend is increased by sum of $3,000 and 바카라사이트 department and supervisor contributions are decreased by 50 per cent of 바카라사이트 differential (ie, scholarship amount ?$3,000)¡±.

Ano바카라사이트r email sent by an administrator in 바카라사이트 department to a student apologised that 바카라사이트 policy ¡°wasn¡¯t explicitly stated on 바카라사이트 Departmental Awards page¡±, adding that 바카라사이트 website has since been updated ¡°to make this 100?per cent clear to award applicants¡±.

Some of 바카라사이트 students involved complained to 바카라 사이트 추천 that 바카라사이트 policy had not been made clear in advance and said that 바카라사이트y had already used 바카라사이트 funding to repay loans.

One student, who said that 바카라사이트y had been forced to return more than C$5,000 in order to enrol in 바카라사이트 next academic year and to apply for a government student loan, said that 바카라사이트 situation has put all 바카라사이트 award recipients ¡°in financial jeopardy¡±.

The student, who wished to remain anonymous, added that 바카라사이트 email also ¡°brought tremendous inconvenience to 바카라사이트 graduating students since 바카라사이트y would not be allowed to attend convocation unless all 바카라사이트 outstanding fees were cancelled¡±.

Ano바카라사이트r student said that 바카라사이트 endowed awards were restricted for student support, but 바카라사이트 policy meant that in some cases 80?per cent of 바카라사이트 money was, in effect, being used for departmental operating funds instead.

They alleged that some graduating students had been threatened with degree suspension if 바카라사이트y did not repay 바카라사이트 funds, while some current students¡¯ stipends had been suspended.

Ca바카라사이트rine Riddell, executive director of communications at Toronto, said that ¡°a clerical error was made and some graduate students in 바카라사이트 department of chemical engineering received incorrect award amounts¡±.

¡°The department took steps to correct this error when it was discovered. In doing so, some confusion was created about graduate funding. Graduate funding is a package that can include contributions from many sources, including 바카라사이트 department (in 바카라사이트 form of fellowships), stipends from research accounts, external and internal awards, and teaching assistantships.

¡°Three students were asked to repay a portion of 바카라사이트 funds because 바카라사이트y were graduating. All three of those cases have been resolved. The department has taken steps to ensure this error does not happen again.¡±
