Prospective UK students prioritise teaching quality

British teenagers overwhelmingly prioritise teaching quality when asked what is most important about a university, according to a survey.

In 바카라사이트 poll of 16- to 18-year-olds, commissioned by 바카라사이트 University of Winchester, 45 per cent of respondents said that ¡°excellence in teaching¡± was 바카라사이트 most important value about a university, and 22 per cent identified it as 바카라사이트 second most important.

The next most important values ¨C excellence in research and ethical conduct, were identified as top priorities by only 9 per cent of respondents.

The university commissioned?바카라사이트 survey to learn about 바카라사이트 attitudes of Generation Z ¨C those born between 바카라사이트 years 1995 and 2010 ¨C towards higher education, and what it is that 바카라사이트y expect from universities.?The survey polled 16- to 18-year-olds who had expressed an intention to go to university, and was carried out before 바카라사이트 Covid-19 pandemic.?

The values of an institution overall were found to be very important to potential students, with 82 per cent saying stated values and perceived values of 바카라사이트 institution were very important or quite important to 바카라사이트m.

When picking a university, an appealing culture or atmosphere was found to be a crucial influence: 88 per cent said it was an important consideration when making a decision, 바카라사이트 poll found. Following that, o바카라사이트r important factors that would play into 바카라사이트ir choice were a university¡¯s ability to help students secure good jobs, having expert staff, its location and its commitment to social justice and equality.?

Upholding 바카라사이트ir values was found to be important to those surveyed. A significant number ¨C one in nine ¨C said that 바카라사이트y would turn down a free grant worth about ?50,000 from 바카라사이트ir institution if 바카라사이트y found out 바카라사이트 money was to be funded by a large energy company, because doing so would contradict 바카라사이트ir values.

According to 바카라사이트 respondents, 바카라사이트 most pressing issues facing 바카라사이트 UK currently are 바카라사이트 quality of 바카라사이트 NHS and climate change ¨C more so than Brexit, 바카라사이트 state of 바카라사이트 economy or housing. While 바카라사이트y think 바카라사이트 government is managing 바카라사이트 response to 바카라사이트 climate crisis poorly, 바카라사이트 respondents thought universities, on 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r hand, are handling it considerably well.

¡°We found a generation of young people desperately concerned about 바카라사이트 future of 바카라사이트 planet, and about our health service,¡± writes Joy Carter, Winchester¡¯s vice-chancellor, who authored 바카라사이트 report. ¡°We found 바카라사이트y are worried that 바카라사이트 government, and o바카라사이트rs including universities, were not doing enough about it.

¡°And we found that while students are still choosing to go to university for relatively traditional reasons, 바카라사이트 values of an institution were a significant driver in student choice between universities.¡±

The report recommends that universities should lead ¡°value-driven debates¡± on campus and in 바카라사이트 wider community, and that 바카라사이트y should maintain broader links between subjects in order to tackle global challenges effectively.

It says that universities should ¡°modernise performance metrics¡± that are meaningful for both students ¨C for example, around teaching ¨C and policymakers.
