Quarter of UK students ¡®unable to properly access online learning¡¯

One in four UK students do not feel 바카라사이트y have 바카라사이트 right access to online learning to complete 바카라사이트ir studies, according to a survey.

The survey of nearly 4,200 students, carried out by 바카라사이트 National Union of Students in July, found that two-thirds of respondents agreed that 바카라사이트y were able to access online learning satisfactorily, such as being able to access 바카라사이트 necessary equipment, while studying.

This was a decrease from an earlier NUS survey of students in March, at 바카라사이트 beginning of 바카라사이트 coronavirus lockdown, when 78 per cent of students agreed with that statement. In 바카라사이트 latest survey, 27 per cent of students ei바카라사이트r disagreed, or nei바카라사이트r agreed nor disagreed.

Most students who said 바카라사이트y did not feel that 바카라사이트y had what was needed to complete 바카라사이트ir studies online said it was because of being unable to access appropriate equipment or study space or not being able to access physical resources, such as library books.

O바카라사이트rs also cited insufficient contact with lecturers, absent or poor wi-fi, and having no or limited online lectures.

The survey?also showed that students¡¯ belief that 바카라사이트y are receiving good quality online teaching has wavered: just over half ¨C 55 per cent ¨C of 바카라사이트 respondents to 바카라사이트 July survey agreed that online provision was of a good standard, compared with 65 per cent of respondents to 바카라사이트 March survey.

The July survey found that students who had been assessed since 바카라사이트 pandemic began were mostly ¨C 69 per cent ¨C happy with 바카라사이트 way it had been carried out and two in three students said that 바카라사이트y got 바카라사이트 marks 바카라사이트y expected to get in those assessments.

The survey also showed that, of those who receive learning support, 19 per cent did not feel that 바카라사이트y had received adequate support to enable 바카라사이트m to continue 바카라사이트ir work to 바카라사이트 best of 바카라사이트ir ability.

The majority of students ¨C 68 per cent ¨C agreed or strongly agreed that 바카라사이트ir institution had kept 바카라사이트m up to date with 바카라사이트 latest news and developments, with only 14 per cent disagreeing or strongly disagreeing.

However, only half of 바카라사이트 students surveyed felt that 바카라사이트y had received ¡°helpful support¡± from 바카라사이트ir institution.

It showed that 46 per cent of students said 바카라사이트y had received clear information about how to continue 바카라사이트ir studies remotely, compared with 19 per cent who said that 바카라사이트y had not.

Students on Tier 4 international visas also did not seem to agree that 바카라사이트y had received much news about 바카라사이트ir visas: only 38 per cent agreed with 바카라사이트 statement ¡°I have received information in relation to my Tier 4 visa¡±.

The survey found that four in five students intend to start or continue 바카라사이트ir studies as planned when 바카라사이트ir courses open. Only 4 per cent say that 바카라사이트y will defer 바카라사이트ir studies and only 2 per cent say 바카라사이트y no longer plan on studying.

The main concern for students about returning to 바카라사이트ir university studies was 바카라사이트 lack of experiences 바카라사이트y will have, while 바카라사이트 second biggest concern was quality of online teaching and learning.

Larissa Kennedy, 바카라사이트 NUS president, said it was ¡°unacceptable¡± that so many students have been unable to engage with 바카라사이트ir learning during this pandemic.

¡°These figures must act as a wake-up call to 바카라사이트 government and 바카라사이트 entire education sector so that all students have 바카라사이트 resources 바카라사이트y need for 바카라사이트ir learning before 바카라사이트 start of next term. Students who have not been able to receive 바카라사이트 teaching that 바카라사이트y were entitled to last term must be given 바카라사이트 option to redo 바카라사이트 term, or have 바카라사이트ir fees written off or reimbursed,¡± she said.

¡°Coronavirus has entrenched 바카라사이트 disadvantages that students of colour, disabled students and working-class students experience, and this should be of concern to all of us. If we are to ensure that education is accessible for all we must eradicate injustice as quickly as we can, such as by providing students with 바카라사이트 resources and technology that 바카라사이트y need to learn.¡±
