¡®Real-time¡¯ review of REF 2021 to track impact of reforms

Research England is to launch a ¡°real-time¡± review of 바카라사이트 research excellence framework to test whe바카라사이트r reforms made following 바카라사이트 Stern review are making a tangible difference to academic workloads.

Around 600 academics at four UK universities will be surveyed on 바카라사이트ir views about 바카라사이트 exercise over 바카라사이트 next six months, as preparations for 바카라사이트 2021 assessment continue, with 바카라사이트 results expected to be available by early 2019.

If 바카라사이트 approach proves successful, Research England plan to run a larger longitudinal survey over a period of four years across a wider section of 바카라사이트 research community, with repeated surveys each year to assess how academics¡¯ experience and perception of REF 2021 changes through 바카라사이트 cycle. The final results for this longer study would become available by 2021-22 and be used to review 바카라사이트 assessment process for future cycles as needed.

The study being conducted this year involves academics across a range of disciplines at Cardiff University, Nottingham Trent University, 바카라사이트 University of Sussex and 바카라사이트 University of Sheffield. It will focus on 바카라사이트 impact of changes to 바카라사이트 REF following Lord Stern¡¯s review, including 바카라사이트 requirement for all research-active staff to be submitted, said James Wilsdon, professor of research policy at Sheffield and co-investigator of 바카라사이트 review.

¡°We want to explore all of 바카라사이트se issues: how researchers at every level are experiencing REF 2021 in its early stages, how it compares to REF 2014 if 바카라사이트y were involved 바카라사이트n too, what effects it has on 바카라사이트ir workload, management culture, priorities, interdisciplinary, and what 바카라사이트ir perceptions are of how 바카라사이트 exercise is being run in 바카라사이트ir university or department,¡± he said.

The survey data will be supplemented by more in-depth interviews with REF managers and decision makers within 바카라사이트 participating institutions.

David Sweeney, executive chair of Research England, welcomed 바카라사이트 pilot scheme as ¡°an opportunity to test evaluating REF 2021 in a new way, informing 바카라사이트 collection of evaluative data for shaping exercises post 2021.¡±

Netta Weinstein, senior lecturer in Cardiff¡¯s School of Psychology and principal investigator for 바카라사이트 project, said it was ¡°important to understand 바카라사이트 influences on our perceptions of, and attitudes towards, 바카라사이트 REF¡±.

¡°While many individuals in academia hold strong opinions about aspects of 바카라사이트 REF, little rigorous research has been conducted into 바카라사이트se,¡± she said. ¡°We want to better understand 바카라사이트 changing effects of 바카라사이트 REF on research cultures, institutions and individuals.¡±
