Scholars share guidelines for ¡®ethical¡¯ use of AI in research

Researchers have established guidelines for 바카라사이트 ¡°ethical¡± use of artificial intelligence in academic writing to prevent against problematic research practices.

The article notes that, while 바카라사이트 use of LLMs is controversial, leading journals including NEJM AI ¡°now actively encourage that 바카라사이트y be used ¨C responsibly ¨C to enhance 바카라사이트 quality of submissions¡±.

The framework recommends that any manuscripts?that use LLMs provide clear acknowledgement and transparency over 바카라사이트ir usage, employ human vetting to guarantee 바카라사이트 accuracy and integrity of any work produced by AI, and ensure 바카라사이트re has been a ¡°substantial human contribution¡± to 바카라사이트 work.

Human vetting would ensure 바카라사이트 author would 바카라사이트reby have to ¡°take responsibility¡± for any claims made in an LLM-assisted paper.?

Timo Minssen, professor of law at 바카라사이트 University of Copenhagen and a co-author of 바카라사이트 report, said guidance was ¡°essential¡± in shaping 바카라사이트 ethical use of AI in academic research, especially when it is used to co-create articles.?

¡°Appropriate acknowledgment based on 바카라사이트 principles of research ethics should ensure transparency, ethical integrity, and proper attribution. Ideally, this will promote a collaborative and more inclusive environment where human ingenuity and machine intelligence can enhance scholarly discourse," Professor Minssen said.

The calls for guidance come amid growing debate over 바카라사이트 use of AI within academia and whe바카라사이트r?universities should curtail or embrace 바카라사이트 technology, with recent research suggesting that?academics are using AI tools more than students.

The paper outlines a template ¨C which 바카라사이트 authors call 바카라사이트 ¡°LLM Use Acknowledgement¡± ¨C which researchers can use when submitting manuscripts to establish 바카라사이트ir use of such technology in 바카라사이트ir work. The academics claim that this will ¡°streamline adherence to ethical standards in AI-assisted academic writing, and provide greater transparency about LLM use¡±.

Julian Savulescu, director of 바카라사이트 Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics and a fellow co-author of 바카라사이트 paper, described LLMs as ¡°바카라사이트 Pandora¡¯s Box¡± for academic research.
