Sector fears ¡®attack¡¯ on European Research Council autonomy

The European Commission¡¯s recently published??has sparked concern among sector leaders, who fear that its emphasis on ¡°strategic interests¡± could indicate a reduction in autonomy for 바카라사이트?European Research Council?(ERC).

Described by commission president Ursula von der Leyen as a ¡°roadmap¡±, 바카라사이트 publication sets out several methods of boosting 바카라사이트 competitiveness of 바카라사이트 European Union, including ¡°closing 바카라사이트 innovation gap¡±, employing a ¡°competitiveness-driven approach to decarbonisation¡± and ¡°reducing excessive dependencies¡±.

The commission places particular emphasis on innovation with a high technical readiness level, stating in 바카라사이트 Compass, ¡°Europe must be 바카라사이트 place where tomorrow¡¯s technologies, services, and clean products are invented, manufactured and marketed.¡±

A leaked draft of 바카라사이트 document alarmed leaders last week with 바카라사이트 assertion that ¡°바카라사이트 European Research Council and 바카라사이트 European Innovation Council need to be aligned along 바카라사이트 same strategic interests and cooperate more closely to achieve results,¡± as?Science Business?.

The final publication modified this statement, made in reference to 바카라사이트 integration of AI into industry, to read, ¡°The European Research Council and 바카라사이트 European Innovation Council need to operate in 바카라사이트ir respective domains along 바카라사이트 same strategic interests and cooperate more closely to achieve results.¡±

Jan Palmowski, secretary general of 바카라사이트 Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities, said 바카라사이트 published wording was an ¡°improvement¡± on 바카라사이트 leaked draft, but still did little to assuage sector concerns.

¡°[The ERC¡¯s] independence is still compromised, by saying that it has to pursue 바카라사이트 same strategic interests as 바카라사이트 EIC ¨C and that it has ¡®to achieve results¡¯,¡± he told?온라인 바카라.?¡°But what results has 바카라사이트 ERC not achieved? It has been spectacularly successful, by any measure. And what strategic interests should it pursue, and who defines 바카라사이트se?

¡°The ERC has a clear mission, to foster scientific excellence and fund breakthrough frontier research. That must be its strategy, and it has pursued it with spectacular results.¡±

Kurt Deketelaere, secretary general of 바카라사이트 League of European Research Universities (Leru), described 바카라사이트 statement as ¡°an unprecedented attack on 바카라사이트 ERC¡¯s autonomy and independence,¡± calling 바카라사이트 commission¡¯s vision for 바카라사이트 research body ¡°a threat to 바카라사이트 free, bottom-up, excellence and curiosity-driven approach of 바카라사이트 ERC¡±.

¡°Those who think that we are ready to give up 바카라사이트 ERC¡¯s autonomy and independence for more money are mistaken,¡± Deketelaere added.

Commenting after a commission official told??that 바카라사이트 ERC would continue to ¡°operate independently¡±, adding, ¡°바카라사이트 commission is fully committed to continue preserving 바카라사이트 unique role of 바카라사이트 ERC and its independence,¡± ERC president Maria Leptin told?바카라 사이트 추천: ¡°We are delighted with 바카라사이트 broad consensus in 바카라사이트 commission that 바카라사이트 EU¡¯s competitiveness needs to be boosted.¡±

¡°Our position is clear that 바카라사이트 ERC must continue to pursue its mission, free from any imposed political priorities,¡± Leptin said.

¡°The philosophy of 바카라사이트 ERC rests on 바카라사이트 idea that researchers know best 바카라사이트 most promising research areas to explore without predetermined 바카라사이트mes or priorities and that 바카라사이트 ERC is independent in its strategies and 바카라사이트ir implementation.
