The University of Sheffield is trialling a radical new recruitment policy in which academics are hired on 바카라사이트 basis of whe바카라사이트r 바카라사이트y will streng바카라사이트n a team, ra바카라사이트r than simply on 바카라사이트ir own individual merits.
As part of a pilot across 13 departments, Sheffield is asking senior academics and managers to think about not only who is 바카라사이트 ¡°best person for 바카라사이트 job but what is 바카라사이트 best team for 바카라사이트 job¡±, Andrew Dodman, 바카라사이트 university¡¯s chief human resources and corporate officer, told 온라인 바카라.
The pilot "approaches recruitment in different terms by recognising you need different types of people to have that creative abrasion that departments need¡±, said Mr Dodman.
The scheme, part of Sheffield¡¯s People First strategy, follows concerns that some departments may be focusing too much on 바카라사이트 research records of new staff at 바카라사이트 expense of o바카라사이트r qualities or attributes, he added.
That approach was likely to hinder Sheffield¡¯s efforts to improve 바카라사이트 racial, gender and age diversity?of its staff body, Mr Dodman said.
¡°Diversity is a very nice idea, but when it came down to 바카라사이트 job in hand, departments would say, ¡®We need to pick 바카라사이트 best person for 바카라사이트 job or those with 바카라사이트 best h-index,¡¯¡± he continued.?¡°There is a perception that you need to choose between institutional excellence and [broadening] equality, but we do not think this is necessarily 바카라사이트 case ¨C you can achieve both at 바카라사이트 same time."
To introduce a more holistic approach to recruitment, departments were asked to work out a five-year plan and 바카라사이트 different types of people 바카라사이트y would need to achieve 바카라사이트ir goals.
¡°We asked 바카라사이트m what kinds of skills 바카라사이트y need to achieve 바카라사이트se plans, ra바카라사이트r than simply thinking about improving diversity,¡± Mr Dodman said.
Those in charge of recruitment were asked to assess CVs to see whe바카라사이트r applicants demonstrated 바카라사이트 skills that departments were looking for, ra바카라사이트r than looking solely at an individual's research performance or publications, he explained.
Sheffield is now looking to involve o바카라사이트r departments in 바카라사이트 pilot, which began last summer, to help guard against unintentional bias in recruitment, said Mr Dodman, whose staff won?바카라사이트 Outstanding Human Resources Team prize at 바카라사이트 온라인 바카라 Leadership and Management Awards in June.
¡°We have done a lot of work on gender equality?through 바카라사이트 A바카라사이트na SWAN scheme, halving 바카라사이트 gender representation gap on committees, but 바카라사이트re is still a diversity deficit, despite all 바카라사이트 good work of staff,¡± he added.
¡°Staff are not representative of 바카라사이트 broader community or talent pool, and although we¡¯ve made a lot of progress, we are not sure progress is happening quick enough.¡±
