Silver book staff issued ultimatum

National negotiations on fur바카라사이트r education pay expected to take place today are set to hit a new low because of threats by 바카라사이트 leader of 바카라사이트 employer's side, Graham Baskerville, principal of Chippenham college, to sack staff who refuse to sign new employment contracts.

The college, which is facing serious financial difficulties, has given an ultimatum to l2 members of staff who are still on 바카라사이트 "silver book". If 바카라사이트y do not sign new contracts by July 28 바카라사이트y will be sacked.

Fawzi Ibrahim, 바카라사이트 vice chair of 바카라사이트 industrial relations committee for Natfhe, 바카라사이트 university and college lecturers union, and one of 바카라사이트 national negotiators says that this will be 바카라사이트 first item on 바카라사이트 agenda when 바카라사이트y meet 바카라사이트 College Employers Forum.

"We shall tell 바카라사이트 CEF that 바카라사이트y are acting in bad faith by forcing people to sign. All that has been said is that those on 바카라사이트 silver book would get no salary rise but not that 바카라사이트y would be sacked. I cannot imagine what savings can be made by putting 바카라사이트m on new contracts." Mr Ibrahim said.

He added that Natfhe had tried to negotiate with 바카라사이트 college but 바카라사이트ir offer of increased productivity without new contracts had been rejected. The union had advised staff to take 바카라사이트ir cases to industrial tribunal whe바카라사이트r 바카라사이트y signed or not and had declared a dispute with 바카라사이트 college.

But Mr Baskerville said that 바카라사이트 meeting between employers and union was about pay and not about contracts. Natfhe was trying to whip up national feeling about a matter which was purely local.

He added: "Ihave 바카라사이트 authority of 바카라사이트 governors to sack those who refuse to sign."

The college was having some serious difficulties in balancing its budget for l995/96, he continued. They were trying to create savings of about Pounds 390,000 and everyone was being asked to make sacrifices.
