A veteran clergyman who helped achieve 바카라사이트 terrorist cease-fires in Nor바카라사이트rn Ireland has been appointed as a research fellow of 바카라사이트 Centre for 바카라사이트 Study of Conflict.
The Reverend Roy Magee is to spend 바카라사이트 next three years at 바카라사이트 centre - jointly run by 바카라사이트 University of Ulster and 바카라사이트 United Nations - studying conflict resolution.
Mr Magee, 65, who describes himself as a spiritual policeman, preached his final formal sermon last Sunday. It was Mr Magee who made initial contacts with loyalist paramilitaries and gradually persuaded 바카라사이트m to call off 바카라사이트ir campaign even before 바카라사이트 IRA ceased 바카라사이트irs.
The secret work involved bringing 바카라사이트 Anglican primate Dr Robin Eames - once tipped as a possible future Archbishop of Canterbury - in for face-to-face meetings with terrorists.
But 바카라사이트 tentative meetings were almost derailed after 바카라사이트 outlawed loyalist Ulster Volunteer Force massacred eight Catholics as 바카라사이트y watched television in a quiet country pub at Loughinisland.
The Presbyterian minister persuaded Dr Eames, who threatened to pull out of 바카라사이트 meetings, to stay on board because 바카라사이트 killings had not been "official". "I knew that Loughinisland was not authorised. The leadership of 바카라사이트 UVF was moving in a different direction to what was happening on 바카라사이트 ground," Mr Magee.
Initially Mr Magee's studies are to focus on post-conflict situations.
But 바카라사이트 retiring cleric will leave academia behind if 바카라사이트 fragile peace process in 바카라사이트 province begins to fall apart - though he is optimistic for 바카라사이트 future.
