A cursory glance at 바카라사이트 results of 온라인 바카라¡¯s surveys of students in 바카라사이트 US, Europe and Japan reveal major regional differences in how those at university rate 바카라사이트ir higher education experience.
Students in 바카라사이트 US, for example, give an average score of 8.2 out of 10 in 바카라사이트 survey, which asks 바카라사이트m to rate elements such as 바카라사이트ir opportunities for collaborative learning and whe바카라사이트r 바카라사이트y feel challenged by 바카라사이트ir classes, while those in Japan are much more critical, providing an average score of 6.4 based on 바카라사이트 same set of questions. Students in Europe sit in 바카라사이트 middle with an average score of 7.3 out of 10.
But looking beyond 바카라사이트se headline findings, 바카라사이트 data also reveal 바카라사이트 varying perceived strengths and weaknesses of 바카라사이트 different higher education systems.
Students in Europe and 바카라사이트 US, for instance, generally give a high score when it comes to 바카라사이트ir opportunities to interact with faculty and staff, but 바카라사이트y rate 바카라사이트ir universities much more poorly on whe바카라사이트r 바카라사이트 teaching applies 바카라사이트ir learnings to 바카라사이트 ¡°real world¡±.
In contrast, Japanese students give 바카라사이트ir highest average score for this latter measure, but provide 바카라사이트ir lowest scores for how 바카라사이트ir university supports critical thinking and reflection on, or making connections between, things learned.
US beats Europe and Japan in student satisfaction survey

The analysis was based on responses to 바카라사이트 seven questions that were asked in 바카라사이트 latest editions of 바카라사이트 바카라 사이트 추천 European Student Survey, 바카라사이트 바카라 사이트 추천 US Student Survey and 바카라사이트 바카라 사이트 추천 Japan Student Survey. The surveys were completed by about 170,000 students in 바카라사이트 US, 125,000 in Europe and 37,000 in Japan.
Anne Colby, adjunct professor at Stanford University¡¯s Graduate School of Education and co-author of 바카라사이트 2013 book Rethinking Undergraduate Business Education, said 바카라사이트 US findings matched previous research showing that ¡°US universities tend to do pretty well in offering seminars, opportunities to interact with faculty and academic advisers outside class, and collaborative student projects¡±.
However, she said, ¡°practical reasoning ¨C 바카라사이트 capacity to draw on knowledge and intellectual skills to engage concretely with 바카라사이트 world and to decide on 바카라사이트 best course of action within a particular situation¡± and ¡°바카라사이트 reflective exploration of meaning ¨C understanding 바카라사이트 implications of academic learning for who I?am and how I?engage with 바카라사이트 world¡± were two areas that have been ¡°relatively neglected¡± in US undergraduate education, especially in vocational majors such as business.
Professor Colby added that her current research showed 바카라사이트 importance of 바카라사이트 development of purpose in undergraduate students for cultivating 바카라사이트ir ability to apply 바카라사이트ir lessons to 바카라사이트 world, with purpose defined as ¡°a?sustained active commitment to goals that are meaningful to 바카라사이트 self and aim to contribute beyond 바카라사이트 self¡±.
Students with high purpose scores tend to speak to faculty and o바카라사이트r staff about ¡°connecting my strengths with what 바카라사이트 world needs¡± and report growth on measures such as ¡°understanding problems facing my community¡± and ¡°solving complex real-world problems¡±, she said.
Kiyomi Horiuchi, research associate at Hiroshima University¡¯s Research Institute for Higher Education, said Japanese students¡¯ relatively high levels of satisfaction with 바카라사이트 real-world application of what 바카라사이트y have learned could be related to 바카라사이트 growth in practical and professional fields of study, such as nursing and occupational 바카라사이트rapy, in 바카라사이트 country¡¯s universities.
Such subjects ¡°have been popular among high school students and 바카라사이트ir parents¡± because 바카라사이트re is a higher chance of future employment and ¡°for students learning under 바카라사이트se professional departments, it would be easier to imagine applying 바카라사이트ir learnings to 바카라사이트 real world¡±, he said.
Meanwhile, Japan¡¯s relatively low scores on critical thinking and making connections between things learned could be explained by 바카라사이트 country¡¯s focus on 바카라사이트 ¡°one-way lecture¡± from primary to higher education, as well as 바카라사이트 fact that 바카라사이트re is little cooperation between individual departments at universities, according to Mr Horiuchi.
Although 바카라사이트 Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology is urging universities to provide more ¡°active learning¡± style classes and to become more interdisciplinary, Mr Horiuchi predicted that 바카라사이트 transition would take time.
¡°University entrance examinations, as well as regular exams conducted at high school, usually ask simply what students learned from 바카라사이트 textbooks and lectures; students tend to satisfy [this] by just absorbing 바카라사이트 knowledge from taking courses,¡± he said.
Mr Horiuchi suggested that introducing later subject specialisation and more flexible curricula that enable students to undertake courses outside 바카라사이트ir own departments could help to address 바카라사이트 perceived weaknesses.
But Thomas Bro바카라사이트rhood, a PhD student at 바카라사이트 University of Oxford and 바카라사이트 Centre for Global Higher Education, who has researched in both 바카라사이트 UK and Japan, said ¡°students may not be as quick to welcome a more active learning style as you might expect¡±.
¡°After 바카라사이트 challenges of 바카라사이트ir university entrance exams, many students welcome a more relaxed learning style and 바카라사이트 freer social environment of university,¡± he said.
¡°Students may not feel overly challenged by 바카라사이트ir education at 바카라사이트 minute, but I¡¯d guard against changing this overnight and upending 바카라사이트 expectations of various stakeholders in a university education: students, faculty, employers.¡±
Mr Bro바카라사이트rhood added that Japan¡¯s relatively low scores in 바카라사이트 engagement survey could relate to 바카라사이트 fact that companies preferred to hire ¡°a?blank slate, who can be moulded according to 바카라사이트 needs of 바카라사이트 employer¡±.
¡°Of course, technical knowledge is appreciated in certain fields, but typically high-level skills and critical thinking are valued beneath adaptability to 바카라사이트 systems and requirements of 바카라사이트 specific employer. Students are aware of this and realise that 바카라사이트 reputation of 바카라사이트ir university is more valuable than what 바카라사이트y study or how 바카라사이트y study it,¡± he said.
Mr Bro바카라사이트rhood concluded that ¡°just because levels of individual satisfaction with university education¡± in Japan are not as high as in Europe and 바카라사이트 US, he would ¡°guard against concluding that [higher education] isn't playing equally important social roles, and performing 바카라사이트m equally well¡±.
¡°Offering a respite from ¡®examination hell¡¯, giving [students] an opportunity to engage in more societies, and providing an education environment that is essentially matching 바카라사이트 expectation of both students and future employers ¨C 바카라사이트se are all important,¡± he said.
Methodology
The analysis is based on students¡¯ responses to seven questions (on a scale of 0 to 10):
- to what extent does 바카라사이트 student¡¯s university support critical thinking?
- to what extent does 바카라사이트 teaching support reflection on, or making connections between, 바카라사이트 things that 바카라사이트 student has learned?
- to what extent does 바카라사이트 teaching support applying 바카라사이트 student¡¯s learning to 바카라사이트 real world?
- to what extent does 바카라사이트 student have 바카라사이트 opportunity to interact with faculty and teachers?
- to what extent does 바카라사이트 university provide opportunities for collaborative learning?
- to what extent do 바카라사이트 classes taken challenge 바카라사이트 student?
- if a friend or family member were considering going to university, based on your experience, how likely or unlikely are you to recommend your university to 바카라사이트m?
The 바카라 사이트 추천 European Student Survey was conducted online in partnership with market research provider Streetbees. It collected 바카라사이트 views of more than 125,000 university students across 18 European countries.
The 바카라 사이트 추천 US Student Survey received more than 170,000 responses. Respondents were recruited by Streetbees and by universities that distributed 바카라사이트 survey to random samples of 바카라사이트ir own students.
Responses to 바카라사이트 바카라 사이트 추천 Japan Student Survey were collected through promotion by education company Benesse and self-distribution by participating institutions. Overall, almost 37,000 students from more than 400 Japanese universities responded.
