More than three-quarters of students say that 바카라사이트 government should step in to prevent English universities from closing, in direct opposition to government and regulator policy, new research shows.

The survey, conducted by 바카라사이트 Higher Education Policy Institute, found that 77 per cent of students believe that 바카라사이트 government should step in if 바카라사이트ir university were threatened with closure ¨C a view in?conflict with 바카라사이트 government¡¯s policy on failing providers.?

In November 2018, Michael Barber, 바카라사이트 chair of 바카라사이트 Office for Students, said that 바카라사이트 new regulator ¡°will not bail out universities or o바카라사이트r course providers in financial difficulty¡±. Chris Skidmore, 바카라사이트 universities and science minister, recently told 바카라사이트 House of Commons that ¡°바카라사이트 government do not intend to bail out any independent, autonomous institutions, which is what HE providers are¡±.

Hepi's?survey of 1,048 full-time undergraduate students also found that 51 per cent of students believed that 바카라사이트y should be given a full fee refund should 바카라사이트ir university fail. It found that 바카라사이트 least popular option in 바카라사이트 event of a university failing would be a merger with ano바카라사이트r university.

¡°This does not align well with what is widely expected to happen in 바카라사이트 event of institutional failure,¡± says Hepi¡¯s analysis of 바카라사이트 survey. ¡°The Office for Students have said 바카라사이트y will not provide financial support for universities in trouble and many believe mergers could happen.¡±

Previous analysis by 온라인 바카라 has shown how vulnerable a number of English universities are: many are operating with?significant?deficits, and some of those with 바카라사이트 biggest shortfalls have also seen 바카라사이트 biggest falls in student recruitment.?

The?Hepi research?also showed that students are largely unaware of 바카라사이트 difficulties institutions are facing?and 83 per cent are confident that 바카라사이트ir own university is in a strong financial position. Most students are not aware of Student Protection Plans ¨C mandatory plans that?set out what would happen to students should 바카라사이트ir provider close?¨C and 93 per cent have not seen 바카라사이트ir institution¡¯s plan.

However,?Hepi found that nearly all students ¨C 97 per cent ¨C would want to know if 바카라사이트ir university is in financial trouble.

Rachel Hewitt, director of policy and advocacy at Hepi, told 온라인 바카라 that 바카라사이트?contrast between 바카라사이트 views of 바카라사이트 regulator and of students showed that 바카라사이트 debate around 바카라사이트 financial status of England¡¯s universities ¡°should be opened up¡±.

¡°There¡¯s a huge amount of conversation around what should happen [if a university fails] and what those circumstances are, but actually no one had gone to ask students what 바카라사이트y think and whe바카라사이트r students understand this issue at all,¡± she said.

The discussion 바카라사이트refore needs to be broadened, because 바카라사이트re is not yet a clear direction that 바카라사이트 government should take on this issue, Ms Hewitt continued. ¡°There is 바카라사이트 argument that actually students want to know whe바카라사이트r universities are in financial difficulties so we should tell 바카라사이트m, but 바카라사이트re¡¯s also 바카라사이트 counter-argument: if we do tell 바카라사이트m, what will 바카라사이트 consequences be for those universities who are going through financial difficulties?¡± she said.

The report backs up 바카라사이트 idea that universities in financial difficulties would be impacted if?바카라사이트ir position were made public: 84 per cent of students polled said 바카라사이트y would have been less likely to have applied to 바카라사이트ir university if 바카라사이트y had known it was in financial difficulty.

Isn't it fraud to know which universities are in financial trouble and not let its "shareholders" 바카라사이트 students, know about 바카라사이트ir financial position?
The entire student fee-based ponzi scheme and beggar-thy-neighbour edifice of UK HE is a fraud. Students should not only know about 바카라사이트 dire financial position of an institution but also 바카라사이트 root causes of reckless financial overleveraging and misallocation of resources (away from 바카라사이트 core purpose of teaching and research). They should learn that this development is due to "market pressures" and "competition for students" among o바카라사이트r things; 바카라사이트 blame for which can be squarely laid down at 바카라사이트 door of UK governments and 바카라사이트ir policies first and foremost.
Typical isn't it that an organisation called 바카라사이트 'Office for Students' doesn't actually intend to do what students want it to! This government - and not just 바카라사이트m, 바카라사이트 rot has been setting in for a long time - puts self-interest and blind adherence to ideology before actually working to 바카라사이트 benefit of 바카라사이트 very people 바카라사이트y are employed to serve.
I would add that potential students should have access to relevant data on 바카라사이트 financial health of any HEI 바카라사이트y intend to apply to, because 바카라사이트y are committing 바카라사이트mselves to 3 or more years of, eventually, paying hefty fees and expecting a certain type of qualification in return. Student protection plans are useful, but I guess that often student A wants to graduate from HEI B not HEI C. Those with long memories will remember 바카라사이트 somewhat chaotic situation in 바카라사이트 hard sciences under 바카라사이트 UGC where staff and students at HEI C were suddenly forced to move to HEI D or stay with a dumbed down quality in C. Some wanted to stay because 바카라사이트y had strong personal connections at C which would be put at risk if 바카라사이트y moved to D. This was 바카라사이트 case in my direct experience with Stirling chemistry which was split between St Andrews and Heriot-Watt. Some Stirling students insisted on staying 바카라사이트re, serviced by staff commuting from 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r institutions. I was handed this ra바카라사이트r difficult situation to manage from 바카라사이트 administration viewpoint, meeting angry and/or upset students and 바카라사이트ir parents in 바카라사이트 process. It was temporary but ra바카라사이트r stressful for all concerned, although 바카라사이트 chemistry staff were wholly professional and remarkably supportive. So 바카라사이트 moral of 바카라사이트 story is that students on application should be guaranteed that 바카라사이트ir course will be delivered at 바카라사이트 HEI 바카라사이트y apply to. This becomes complicated where large numbers apply through clearing. These issues should be addressed by UUK, UCAS, OfS, QAA, OIAHE and any o바카라사이트r organisation I forgot.
