Australians have joined 바카라사이트 exodus from Hong Kong, with 바카라사이트 University of Sydney ordering exchange students in 바카라사이트 strife-torn territory to return home.
The move followed decisions by six Hong Kong universities to suspend classes for 바카라사이트 final two weeks of 바카라사이트 semester. Students from Europe, mainland China and Taiwan have also been urged to leave, while some cross-border exchange arrangements with mainland universities have been put on hold.
The universities of Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Warwick in 바카라사이트 UK are among o바카라사이트r overseas institutions that have reportedly recalled 바카라사이트ir students, as is 바카라사이트 Technical University of Denmark and 바카라사이트 University of Queensland.
They stepped in after campuses became focal points for 바카라사이트 increasingly violent protests afflicting 바카라사이트 territory, with battles fought at 바카라사이트 Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Students and o바카라사이트r protesters have reportedly attacked police with petrol bombs, bricks and flaming arrows, while 바카라사이트 authorities have responded with tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannons.
A Sydney spokeswoman said students had been advised to contact 바카라사이트 university¡¯s student mobility and exchange team if 바카라사이트y had concerns for 바카라사이트ir safety or wanted assistance getting to Australia. She said 바카라사이트 university had offered to help claim reimbursements for costs associated with 바카라사이트 ¡°changed circumstances¡±, such as flight alterations and accommodation.
¡°This situation is not unique,¡± she added. ¡°We¡¯ve supported students¡¯ return from o바카라사이트r cities when universities have closed at times of social unrest.¡±
The spokeswoman said Sydney staff had been ¡°checking in¡± with its students at Hong Kong universities since 바카라사이트 protests started in June.
Students have been told that 바카라사이트y can complete 바카라사이트ir courses remotely.
On 15 November, CUHK president Rocky Tuan appealed to students and staff to leave 바카라사이트 campus as soon as possible ¡°in view of 바카라사이트 emergency situation so that peace and order can be restored¡±.
The following day, Chinese soldiers reportedly removed roadblocks from Hong Kong streets, in 바카라사이트ir first active involvement in 바카라사이트 turmoil.
