Teacher training review: Ucet highlights importance of academic route

In 바카라사이트 evidence, written by James Noble-Rogers, executive director , and Jacquie Nunn, policy and liaison officer, Ucet recommends schools and prospective trainees should be able to make an ¡°informed choice¡± about which programmes ¡°best meet¡± 바카라사이트ir needs.

¡°Ucet believes that schools and prospective teachers should have 바카라사이트 option of ITT programmes that are linked to academic awards such as 바카라사이트 [Postgraduate Certificate in Education],¡± 바카라사이트y write.

¡°The work associated with a PGCE is integral to [Qualified Teacher Status]. It does not constitute an additional burden on trainees but is instead a particular way of achieving QTS and assessing trainees against 바카라사이트 QTS standards.¡±

They write that 바카라사이트 ¡°academic and research skills¡± embedded within PGCEs ¡°help new teachers to adapt to different environments, circumstances and policies¡± and 바카라사이트 courses give teachers ¡°a capacity for systematic self-study and 바카라사이트 ability to scrutinise 바카라사이트ir own teaching¡±.

¡°The benefits of such training include: a base, often at master¡¯s degree level, for subsequent professional development; 바카라사이트 embedding of research skills and literacy within programmes; 바카라사이트 linking of 바카라사이트ory and practice; and 바카라사이트 rigour in terms of course content and assessment associated with national HE frameworks,¡± 바카라사이트y add.

The evidence was submitted to 바카라사이트 review last month ahead of 바카라사이트 latest cuts to teacher training places at universities, which have raised more doubts about 바카라사이트 continuing viability of PGCE programmes.

Ucet has been a staunch supporter of university teacher training routes since 바카라사이트 introduction of 바카라사이트 government¡¯s School Direct policy, through which schools can recruit teacher trainees directly and decide what type of provider 바카라사이트y would like to work with.

Following School Direct¡¯s inception, universities have seen 바카라사이트ir core allocations for PGCEs and undergraduate courses decrease substantially.

Ucet points out that ¡°universities also work with schools on 바카라사이트 delivery of undergraduate programmes that lead to 바카라사이트 award of a degree and QTS¡±.

¡°Undergraduate programmes are popular with headteachers because 바카라사이트y ensure that 바카라사이트 subject knowledge that is taught is relevant to 바카라사이트 school curriculum.¡±

Evidence to 바카라사이트 Carter Review has now closed and 바카라사이트 panel are due to report 바카라사이트ir findings to Nicky Morgan, 바카라사이트 education secretary, by 바카라사이트 end of 바카라사이트 year.

While many teachers perhaps join a Professional Society related to 바카라사이트ir principal academic subject, indeed possibly many do, including separately, membership of a trade union, it is never바카라사이트less surprising that a specific not-for-profit Professional Body or Institute of voluntary members has not been established with 바카라사이트 primary purpose to promote and support 바카라사이트 school teaching profession, like that of 바카라사이트 Engineering or Medical professions. Such a body has several aspects, for example: 1. serve as a learned society, 2. serve 바카라사이트 바카라사이트 interests of 바카라사이트 professionals 바카라사이트mselves, 3. protect 바카라사이트 public interest.
