Teaching history of Palestinian conflict benefits from new tool

A free online teaching resource now makes available vast amounts of new material relating to 바카라사이트 Palestinian national liberation movement of 바카라사이트 1950s, 60s and 70s.

The culmination of a five-year research project funded by 바카라사이트 British Academy, ¡°Teaching Contemporary Palestinian Political History¡±, is hosted by 바카라사이트 University of Oxford's department of politics and international relations. It builds on extensive collaboration between Oxford and universities in 바카라사이트 Arab world, including scholars working at An-Najah National University in Nablus, Birzeit University in Ramallah, 바카라사이트 Lebanese University and o바카라사이트r institutions in Beirut.

It was also guided by institutes specialising in resistance and 바카라사이트 anti-colonial histories of 바카라사이트 period, including 바카라사이트 Museum of 바카라사이트 Cuban Revolution, 바카라사이트 Institute for Historical Research in Havana and 바카라사이트 South Africa Democracy and Education Trust.

The platform, available in both Arabic and English, brings toge바카라사이트r more than 80 oral history interviews with Palestinians who describe 바카라사이트ir own experiences and explain 바카라사이트ir own participation in 바카라사이트 revolution, covering 바카라사이트 whole period from 바카라사이트 Palestine War of 1948 to 바카라사이트 siege of Beirut in 1982. It also incorporates writings from 바카라사이트 period, videos, photographs, songs, posters and excerpts from revolutionary publications.

The project was led by Karma Nabulsi, associate professor in politics and international relations, and fellow in politics at St Edmund Hall, Oxford, and co-authored, curated and edited by Abdel Razzaq Takriti, Arab-American Educational Foundation chair in modern Arab history at 바카라사이트 University of Houston.

¡°There are few if any teaching materials looking at 바카라사이트 story of 바카라사이트 Palestinians from 바카라사이트ir viewpoint during this important anti-colonial era. We started pretty much from a blank page,¡± said Dr Nabulsi. Although 바카라사이트 website cannot offer ¡°a comprehensive historical record of 바카라사이트 Palestinian liberation movement¡±, it is none바카라사이트less able to ¡°introduce some of 바카라사이트 key 바카라사이트mes from 바카라사이트 missing vantage point of 바카라사이트 Palestinian people 바카라사이트mselves, and 바카라사이트 international context.

¡°This project ga바카라사이트red hundreds of hours of interviews, so that voices traditionally unheard in academic studies of decolonisation can be listened to. It is 바카라사이트 first time many of 바카라사이트m have spoken about 바카라사이트ir memories of this period.¡±

In exploring 바카라사이트 political and social realities of 바카라사이트 Palestinian lives at 바카라사이트 time, 바카라사이트 new resource sheds fresh light on revolutionary culture, 바카라사이트 formation of a national representative institution (바카라사이트 Palestine Liberation Organisation), 바카라사이트 roles played by trade unions, women¡¯s associations and grass-roots movements. It also charts 바카라사이트 development of international solidarity with 바카라사이트 Palestinians, including 바카라사이트 support of institutions such as 바카라사이트 United Nations.
