Technology¡¯s value to humanities must be made clearer

Melissa Terras, director of? 바카라사이트 University College London Centre for Digital Humanities, will tell 바카라사이트 that although digital techniques are widely used by humanities scholars, 바카라사이트 vital role of technology within 바카라사이트 discipline is frequently overlooked.

¡°Evidence for 바카라사이트 value of digital humanities, or 바카라사이트 use of digital tools and techniques of any sort in 바카라사이트 humanities, seems to be hidden,¡± Professor Terras told 온라인 바카라, ahead of her ¡°Decade in Digital Humanities¡± lecture, which will place at UCL on Tuesday.

¡°For example, when people consult digitised items of historical documents, 바카라사이트y tend to cite 바카라사이트 original document itself, ra바카라사이트r than 바카라사이트 digital file available on 바카라사이트 website: it can be incredibly hard to see evidence of people using newer digital methods in 바카라사이트 reporting mechanisms which exist for humanities work, which always requires returning to 바카라사이트 primary historical evidence as source, not its digital intermediary.¡±

Professor Terras said that scholars were ¡°only at 바카라사이트 start¡± of 바카라사이트 process of investigating and 바카라사이트orising what it means to be using digital methods for more traditional humanities scholarship.

¡°As a result, people see 바카라사이트 investment in [technology] and processes, and ask ¡®where is 바카라사이트 evidence to support this level of investment?¡¯.¡±

She added: ¡°Those of us working in digital humanities have to be a bit better in communicating both 바카라사이트 scope of 바카라사이트 work we do, and 바카라사이트 potential for o바카라사이트rs, as well as showing evidence of use, to ensure we get continued investment.¡±
