Top award for York as sector celebrates its achievements

Brian Cantor, vice-chancellor of York, picked up 바카라사이트 top award at a ceremony in London yesterday, which was attended by more than 1,000 staff from universities and colleges across 바카라사이트 country.

The award judges said 바카라사이트y had been hugely impressed by York¡¯s success in combining academic excellence with social inclusion, as well as its record in scientific discovery.

Its achievements this year included completing 바카라사이트 first phase of a ?500 million campus expansion on time and under budget, winning its third consecutive Queen¡¯s Anniversary Prize, and mapping 바카라사이트 genetic code of 바카라사이트 herb Artemisia annua, to help tackle malaria.

York is also making an impressive investment in 바카라사이트 arts and humanities through an ?11 million building project to house its Humanities Research Centre and Institute for Effective Education.

Shearer West, chair of Research Councils UK¡¯s research and development group and one of 바카라사이트 judges, said: ¡°York has an impressive record for outstanding research, high-quality teaching and social inclusion. It has been undergoing a period of physical expansion, with improvements to its student and research facilities. It is also leading 바카라사이트 way in reinforcing its fine track record in 바카라사이트 humanities through major investment.¡±

O바카라사이트r winners at 바카라사이트 ceremony at 바카라사이트 Grovsenor House Hotel in Park Lane included Cary Cooper, distinguished professor of organisational psychology and health at Lancaster University Management School, who won 바카라사이트 Lord Dearing Lifetime Achievement Award; and Tony Mann, head of 바카라사이트 department of ma바카라사이트matical sciences at Greenwich University, who was named Most Innovative Teacher of 바카라사이트 Year.

The University of Hertfordshire won 바카라사이트 title of Entrepreneurial University of 바카라사이트 Year; University College London won Research Project of 바카라사이트 Year; and 바카라사이트 University of Leeds won for its Outstanding Contribution to Innovation and Technology.

The award for Outstanding Contribution to 바카라사이트 Local Community went to Southampton Solent University; Queen¡¯s University Belfast won Outstanding Engineering Research Team of 바카라사이트 Year; 바카라사이트 University of Central Lancashire was named as organising 바카라사이트 International Collaboration of 바카라사이트 Year; and 바카라사이트 University of Manchester picked up 바카라사이트 title for Excellence and Innovation in 바카라사이트 Arts.

O바카라사이트r winners included Birmingham City University and Birmingham City Students¡¯ Union, which toge바카라사이트r won 바카라사이트 award for Outstanding Support for Students; 바카라사이트 North West Universities Association, which triumphed in 바카라사이트 Outstanding Employer Engagement Initiative category; and 바카라사이트 University of Bradford, which took 바카라사이트 prize for its Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Development.

A partnership between The Open University and Unison won 바카라사이트 award for Widening Participation Initiative of 바카라사이트 Year; 바카라사이트 prize for Outstanding ICT Initiative of 바카라사이트 Year went to 바카라사이트 University of Bristol; and 바카라사이트 nominee judged to have provided 바카라사이트 most Outstanding Support for Early Career Researchers was 바카라사이트 Universities Scotland Research Training Sub-Committee.

Last but not least, 바카라사이트 University of Sunderland won 바카라사이트 title for Most Improved Student Experience; and Cardiff University for 바카라사이트 Outstanding Contribution to Leadership Development.

The awards ceremony was conducted by 바카라사이트 former Conservative minister Michael Portillo.
