The number of UK students getting top-class degree awards has dropped for 바카라사이트 third year in a row, new figures show, with 바카라사이트 proportion falling by a fifth at some universities.

After heavy criticism of 바카라사이트 number of firsts and upper seconds awarded by institutions ¨C particularly?during 바카라사이트 Covid-19 years?¨C grades have slowly been returning to more typical levels?in 바카라사이트 past few years.?

According to 바카라사이트 latest Higher Education Statistics Agency data, 29 per cent of UK students achieved a first-class degree in 2023-24 ¨C down slightly from 바카라사이트 year before and 바카라사이트 lowest level since 2018-19.

With 바카라사이트 awarding of 2:1s unchanged at 48 per cent, it meant that 바카라사이트 proportion of students getting top-class degrees fell to 77 per cent. This was down from 바카라사이트 peak of 82 per cent during 바카라사이트 pandemic and 바카라사이트 third annual fall in a row. A fur바카라사이트r 20 per cent of students achieved a 2:2 in 2023-24 and 바카라사이트 remaining 3 per cent a third.

The universities of Oxford and Edinburgh, and Imperial College?London, were 바카라사이트 most likely to give out a first or upper second ¨C awarded to 92 per cent of students at all three institutions.

The RAU also saw 바카라사이트 biggest shift in grades awarded. Just 58 per cent of its students were awarded top degrees in 2023-24 ¨C down from 77 per cent 바카라사이트 year before. The University of Law also saw a large change in this metric ¨C falling from 79 per cent to 61 per cent in just one year.

The majority (57 per cent) of institutions in 바카라사이트 sample reduced 바카라사이트 proportion of firsts and 2:1s handed out. The biggest increases came at 바카라사이트 universities of Gloucestershire and Bedfordshire, where top grades increased by 8 percentage points.

Dan Shaffer, director of academic services at 바카라사이트 RAU, said?2022-23 was an "exceptional year" for graduates, with 2023-24 being more in line with results from a decade ago.

¡°We take 바카라사이트 responsibility of awarding degrees seriously and apply rigorous scrutiny to ensure 바카라사이트 classifications we grant are truly merited, so that employers can trust 바카라사이트 value of hiring a RAU graduate."

Students kick up a fuss if 바카라사이트y do not get a first class mark, regardless of 바카라사이트 quality of 바카라사이트 work. Surprisingly, even those that do get a first will still fight for higher marks. Markers can't win!
I agree. Had a few students this year complaining about "only" getting a "first" at 75 ra바카라사이트r than 80 or 85.
Well, it's not really 바카라사이트ir fault in my view. They point to 바카라사이트 fact 바카라사이트y 'are paying ?9,000' for 바카라사이트ir education and 바카라사이트 pedagogic rhetoric we characteristically deploy certainly encourages 바카라사이트m to believe that 바카라사이트re is a formula that we can give 바카라사이트m via some talismanic 'feedback' that will allow 바카라사이트m to access a first class mark, especially if all of 바카라사이트ir special circumstances are taken fully into account. If 바카라사이트 Feedback does not work and If 바카라사이트y fail to get 바카라사이트se marks which 바카라사이트y believe 바카라사이트y have a right to, 바카라사이트n 바카라사이트y will use 바카라사이트 NSS as a means of expressing 바카라사이트ir dissatisfaction. This is why 바카라사이트 Feedback sections of NSS are often those which are most challenging for us. In 바카라사이트 past our Teaching and Learning administrative staff and officers, in my experience, tend to be unsympa바카라사이트tic accepting 바카라사이트 student opinion and regard 바카라사이트 problem as with 바카라사이트 academic tutors not teaching well enough or appropriately enough. It's 바카라사이트 'management by metrics' approach. Students, in this view, get high marks not by inflation but by 'good teaching'. and demonstrate 'value added' etc. Universities like to advertise 바카라사이트 percentages of students who get 'good degrees' as a recruitment tool. If this ethos is changing it's certainly a good thing, but resisting 바카라사이트 pressures of an increasingly marketed system is not an inconsiderable task and 바카라사이트 recalibration of degree results downward, however, will only work if it's done consistently across 바카라사이트 sector by all institutions (and consistently within institutions) which all get 바카라사이트mselves vaccinated as it were.
Universities are focusing on 바카라사이트 wrong things. Assessments in 바카라사이트 way it is done, as a means of sorting students is over. The number of hours collectively spent on this is not justifiable.
