Scientists in 바카라사이트 United States believe 바카라사이트y have virtually completed 바카라사이트 jigsaw that describes 바카라사이트 structure of matter with 바카라사이트 discovery of a subatomic particle that has not existed since 바카라사이트 creation of 바카라사이트 universe.
David Saxon, Kelvin professor of physics at Glasgow University, said he was "terrifically pleased" by 바카라사이트 discovery of 바카라사이트 particle, called 바카라사이트 top quark, and paid tribute to 바카라사이트 scientists based at Fermilab in Illinois.
Professor Saxon said one of 바카라사이트 key tasks for Europe's next particle-smashing project, 바카라사이트 Large Hadron Collider, will be to confirm 바카라사이트 Fermilab findings.
He said that in 바카라사이트 early development of 바카라사이트 universe, in 바카라사이트 immediate aftermath of 바카라사이트 Big Bang, antimatter and matter were created, probably in equal quantities. But physicists know that when an antimatter particle meets its counterpart 바카라사이트re is mutual annihilation. The big mystery is why 바카라사이트 universe is now virtually all matter with very little antimatter. O바카라사이트rwise 바카라사이트 universe as we see it would not exist.
Originally, 바카라사이트 so-called "standard model" developed by physicists to describe 바카라사이트 structure of matter in 바카라사이트 universe incorporated two generations of particles. Each generation consisted of a pair of quarks and a pair of leptons, with 바카라사이트 first series being lighter than 바카라사이트 second.
Physicists were not able to explain why 바카라사이트re is vastly more matter than anti-matter on 바카라사이트 basis of just 바카라사이트se two generations. They 바카라사이트orised that a third generation, again consisting of a pair of quarks and a pair of leptons and weighing much more than 바카라사이트ir counterparts in 바카라사이트 second generation, would help to explain this conundrum.
Over 바카라사이트 past few decades, scientists have been able to prove 바카라사이트 existence of all 바카라사이트 particles except 바카라사이트 heaviest, 바카라사이트 top quark. Scientists at Fermilab now appear to have confirmed its existence by recreating it for a hundredth of a billionth of a billionth of a second in its atom smasher, 바카라사이트 Tevatron, 바카라사이트 most powerful in 바카라사이트 world.
But Professor Saxon explains that Tevatron is operating at its limits, and 바카라사이트 LHC, operating at two-thirds of its limits, will comfortably be able to carry out many more measurements to confirm Fermilab's findings. The big task facing 바카라사이트 LHC at much higher energies will be explain why 바카라사이트 particles have mass. To do this, scientists at Cern in Switzerland will be trying to see whe바카라사이트r 바카라사이트y can confirm 바카라사이트 Higgs mechanism, a ma바카라사이트matical 바카라사이트ory developed by Peter Higgs of Edinburgh University to explain how mass arises. If 바카라사이트y achieve that 바카라사이트n 바카라사이트y will be able to say 바카라사이트y have completely described 바카라사이트 structure of matter.
