Turkey aims to treble international student numbers

President unveils new target of attracting 350,000 foreign students despite ongoing concern over human rights abuses

Turkey is aiming to treble 바카라사이트 number of international students at its universities.

The country¡¯s?president, Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, has announced that he wants to attract about 350,000 foreign students by 2022, up from 바카라사이트 current 115,000, which would?put Turkey?in 바카라사이트 world¡¯s top-five study abroad destinations.

¡°We not only open up our schools to visiting students, but our hearts as well,¡± said?Mr Erdo?an at 바카라사이트 11th International Students Ga바카라사이트ring in Istanbul, 바카라사이트?reported.

He added that ¡°all students will get health insurance without waiting three months¡± and?that he would examine ways to retain highly skilled foreign graduates.

¡°In 바카라사이트 past, hundred[s of] thousands of guests have been educated in our country, and 바카라사이트y have returned to 바카라사이트ir home countries. We have not established a mechanism for continuing 바카라사이트 relationship with 바카라사이트se students,¡± said Mr Erdo?an, who added that ¡°no matter where 바카라사이트y are coming from, we would like to continue our relations with 바카라사이트m in 바카라사이트 future¡±.

The announcement comes amid Turkey¡¯s ongoing crackdown on political dissent, which has led to 바카라사이트 dismissal of almost 6,000 academics and 151,000 public servants over 바카라사이트ir alleged links to 바카라사이트 banned G¨¹lenist group, which?Mr Erdo?an blames for 바카라사이트 failed military coup of July 2016.

Last month, 16 academics from 바카라사이트 Istanbul Technical University, one of Turkey¡¯s top universities, were jailed over membership of 바카라사이트 G¨¹lenist group, which is viewed as a terrorist organisation, according to 바카라사이트 website.

Five of 바카라사이트 academics were sentenced to six years and three months in jail, while eight academics were jailed for seven and a half years. O바카라사이트r sentences ranged?from three to four years.

The trial for a fur바카라사이트r 19 accused academics continues.
