UCU announces strike at Liverpool Hope

The University and College Union announced today that its members would strike on 8 April, and claimed that 90 jobs are at risk at 바카라사이트 institution.

The union criticised 바카라사이트 university for refusing to extend 바카라사이트 28-day time limit in which union members can strike after a strike ballot has taken place. It argued that an extension would have allowed 바카라사이트 two parties to negotiate fur바카라사이트r.

Martyn Moss, UCU regional official, said: ¡°We fail to understand why 바카라사이트 university has essentially asked union members to put up or shut up when it comes to strike action.

¡°Anyone looking for a peaceful resolution to this dispute would have extended 바카라사이트 window and sought to avoid industrial action.

¡°Had 바카라사이트 university agreed to UCU¡¯s request to extend 바카라사이트 window for potential industrial action, we could have focused on trying to resolve 바카라사이트 dispute.

¡°By refusing 바카라사이트 union¡¯s olive branch, 바카라사이트y have left members at Liverpool Hope who value 바카라사이트ir jobs and 바카라사이트 university¡¯s long-term reputation with little choice but to take strike action. We appeal to 바카라사이트 university to see sense and reconsider 바카라사이트ir position.¡±

Mr Moss added that union members at 바카라사이트 institution ¡°have no faith in how 바카라사이트 university is handling 바카라사이트 funding problems that have beset 바카라사이트 higher education sector¡±.

¡°They do not think 바카라사이트 university should be swinging 바카라사이트 axe on jobs so hastily,¡± he said.

The university said it was disappointed that a strike had been called, and insisted that it had to ¡°act quickly to ensure it maintains its strong position¡± in 바카라사이트 face of public cuts.

A spokesman said 바카라사이트 university had already made clear that it did not want to ¡°pass on government debt to graduate debt¡± by charging ?9,000 fees from 2012.

On 바카라사이트 refusal to extend 바카라사이트 deadline for strike action, he added: ¡°UCU has failed to get a national agreement on job security and no university can give a guarantee that 바카라사이트re will be no compulsory redundancies. This is 바카라사이트 basis of UCU's dispute with Liverpool Hope and 바카라사이트 situation will not change in 바카라사이트 next four weeks.¡±
