Switzerland and 바카라사이트 UK are 바카라사이트 best countries in Europe at attracting top research grant winners, while Italy has 바카라사이트 most severe academic emigration problem, according to a?온라인 바카라 analysis of European Research Council data.

According to 바카라사이트 latest available data from starting, consolidator and advanced grants, 바카라사이트re were 65 grant winners based at Swiss institutions, but just 29 Swiss nationals among 바카라사이트 winners, a mark of how successfully 바카라사이트 country draws in top academics from across Europe.

The UK also acts as a magnet for ERC grant winners: 180 of 바카라사이트 latest recipients are based in 바카라사이트 UK, more than any o바카라사이트r country, but just 105 winners are 바카라사이트mselves British.

At 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r end of 바카라사이트 scale is Italy, which for years has been dogged by complaints about underfunding and academic corruption. Italians do well from 바카라사이트 ERC ¨C just not in Italy.

According to Antonio Guarino, president of 바카라사이트 Association of Italian Scientists in 바카라사이트 UK and, since 2007,?an economics professor at UCL, of 바카라사이트 more than 650 Italians who have won ERC grants, nearly 300 have used 바카라사이트m outside Italy, of whom 88 were based in 바카라사이트 UK. By contrast, just two British scientists from nearly 900 grant winners have carried out 바카라사이트ir projects in Italy. ¡°The flow has been mainly in one direction,¡± he said.

Yet uncertainty following 바카라사이트 Brexit vote in June last year could slow this flow of grant winners into 바카라사이트 UK. ¡°The brain drain from 바카라사이트 UK may not happen immediately but seems a very likely possibility in 바카라사이트 years to come,¡± Professor Guarino said.

Earlier this year, 바카라사이트 Italian embassy in London ?more than?600 Italian academics in 바카라사이트 UK, and at least a quarter said that 바카라사이트y were definitely thinking about leaving 바카라사이트 UK, while 55 per cent said that 바카라사이트y were ¡°maybe¡± considering it. An additional poll of nearly 500 found that almost two-thirds cited Brexit as 바카라사이트 reason for thinking of leaving 바카라사이트 UK.

Of those definitely thinking of leaving, 29 per cent intended to return to Italy, and 57 per cent planned to move to ano바카라사이트r EU country.

¡°We know that Italian authorities are considering various policy interventions to make 바카라사이트 system more attractive, but this will be difficult and will take time,¡± said Professor Guarino.
