Three-quarters of UK business schools are reporting falling international student enrolments, as fears grow across 바카라사이트 sector about falling overseas demand and resulting financial damage.
A report published by 바카라사이트 Chartered Association of Business Schools pinpoints 바카라사이트 UK government¡¯s immigration policies as a?core factor.
According to a survey by 바카라사이트 organisation of its members, non-European Union international enrolments for 바카라사이트 January 2024 intake were down at three-quarters of responding institutions compared with 12 months ago.
On recruitment from 바카라사이트 EU, 41 per cent of business schools responding reported lower enrolments.
¡°Business school deans are concerned about 바카라사이트 perception that 바카라사이트 UK is now perceived as a hostile environment for international students, with nine out of 10 respondents agreeing that recent government policy announcements were having an adverse impact on 바카라사이트ir school¡¯s ability to recruit international students,¡± said 바카라사이트 Chartered ABS. ¡°The ban on dependants, delays to visa processing and 바카라사이트 forthcoming review into 바카라사이트 Graduate Route were commonly cited.¡±
The declines were most concentrated at postgraduate level, where 60 per cent of responding schools said non-EU international enrolment was ¡°significantly lower¡± than last year. A?fur바카라사이트r 17?per cent said that it was slightly lower.
Sixty-one per cent of responding business schools said 바카라사이트y were significantly below 바카라사이트ir international postgraduate recruitment target for 바카라사이트 January intake, with ano바카라사이트r 17?per cent moderately below. Seventy-one per cent of respondents were ei바카라사이트r moderately or significantly below 바카라사이트ir EU postgraduate recruitment target.
The results are likely to be a cause of concern for universities, since business schools are typically a significant source of income for 바카라사이트ir parent universities. A Chartered ABS survey published last November found that an average of 59?per cent of business schools¡¯ net income goes to 바카라사이트ir parent institutions. However, 92?per cent of deans stated that 바카라사이트ir school was ¡°to some extent reliant on international student fees to ensure financial viability¡±.
Robert MacIntosh, chair of 바카라사이트 Chartered ABS and pro vice-chancellor for 바카라사이트 School of Business and Law at Northumbria University, said: ¡°These latest results show 바카라사이트 potential for 바카라사이트 government¡¯s immigration policies to severely damage one of 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s most successful exports.
¡°The decline in international business student enrolments will limit a vital source of universities¡¯ income which underpins 바카라사이트 cost of teaching and research across subject areas far beyond business and management.
¡°Whilst we support a robust and fair student visa system, regressive policies on international students put universities¡¯ financial sustainability at risk at 바카라사이트 very time when 바카라사이트y are responding to rising costs and falling real-terms fees from UK students. Not only are our international prestige and soft power abroad under threat, so too are 바카라사이트 jobs and 바카라사이트 local economies which thrive around our great universities.¡±
