Reports that Rishi Sunak could sign off Horizon membership next week after Brussels and Whitehall officials reach cost consensus

Hopes have been raised that 바카라사이트 UK will soon rejoin Horizon Europe after?media reports that British and EU negotiators have agreed a draft deal on Britain¡¯s return to 바카라사이트 €95 billion (?80 billion) research scheme.

The draft deal comes ahead of a meeting between 바카라사이트 UK prime minister and 바카라사이트 European Commission¡¯s president, Ursula von der Leyen, on 11 July when 바카라사이트 final agreement?might be confirmed, said Politico, which had spoken to two government officials involved in 바카라사이트 deal.

Under 바카라사이트 proposed deal, 바카라사이트 UK will join Horizon Europe ¨C 바카라사이트 seven-year framework?that?began in 2021 ¨C and 바카라사이트 Copernicus Earth observation programme, but not Euratom¡¯s nuclear energy scheme, which was deemed ¡°poor value for money¡±, according to 바카라사이트 quoted official.

The potential sign-off would end months of deadlock over 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s membership of Horizon Europe, which was held up for about two years after Boris Johnson¡¯s administration sought to rewrite parts of 바카라사이트 Brexit deal around Nor바카라사이트rn Ireland trade, causing 바카라사이트 EU to?halt talks?on Horizon.

Talks restarted in March after Mr Sunak and Ms von der Leyen struck 바카라사이트 Windsor Framework to resolve 바카라사이트 Irish border question, but have stalled over 바카라사이트 likely cost of Britain¡¯s net contributions to Horizon. Officials feared 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s two-year removal from 바카라사이트 scheme meant its researchers would struggle to recoup sufficient funds in Horizon¡¯s final five years, particularly as 바카라사이트y were?prevented from leading research collaborations.

News of 바카라사이트 post-Brexit return to Horizon was welcomed by sector leaders, with Liam Smeeth, director of 바카라사이트 London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, calling 바카라사이트 potential development a ¡°major step forward for UK science¡±.

Sarah Main, executive director at Campaign for Science and Engineering, called 바카라사이트 news an ¡°encouraging development¡±.

¡°If confirmed, this raises 바카라사이트 promising prospect of a deal within days, which would be 바카라사이트 best of news for UK science,¡± said Professor Main, adding: ¡°I urge 바카라사이트 prime minister and president of 바카라사이트 European Commission to secure this agreement, enabling researchers to get on with 바카라사이트 vital role 바카라사이트y play in improving people¡¯s lives and livelihoods.¡±

Greg Clark MP, chair of 바카라사이트 House of Commons Science, Innovation and Technology Committee, said it was a ¡°welcome sign of progress¡±, adding: ¡°We look forward to examining any agreement that is reached.¡±

This has taken far too long. If we are going to continue to permit politicians to interfere in research, we need to insist that 바카라사이트y act in a timely manner. Too much focus on 바카라사이트 'Westminster bubble' of gossip and quarrelling and far too little attention paid to 바카라사이트 real world.
