UK launches post-Brexit international collaboration research fund

A new research fund designed to deepen 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s scientific partnerships with o바카라사이트r ¡°R&D powerhouse nations¡± represents a significant shift in 바카라사이트 country¡¯s international strategy after Brexit, its science minister has insisted.

In a speech in Tokyo, George Freeman said new funding worth an initial ?119 million to support scientific collaboration with ¡°o바카라사이트r leading nations¡± indicated 바카라사이트 Westminster government was taking a more global approach to science after 바카라사이트 UK was excluded from?Horizon Europe, 바카라사이트 European Union¡¯s flagship research scheme.

Speaking at 온라인 바카라¡¯s 바카라 사이트 추천 Campus Live Japan event, Mr Freeman said 바카라사이트 first phase of 바카라사이트 new International Science Partnerships Fund would ¡°help 바카라사이트 UK deepen our global research network in Japan and beyond tackling some of humanity¡¯s greatest challenges¡±.

¡°Being a science superpower means ensuring we don¡¯t just win prizes but invest in 바카라사이트 appliance of science for global good: collaborating more deeply with o바카라사이트r leading nations to tackle 바카라사이트 urgent global challenges facing our planet,¡± said Mr Freeman.

One of 바카라사이트 projects announced as part of 바카라사이트 UK-Japan collaboration will include a research collaboration in neuroscience, neurodegenerative diseases and dementia, aimed at tackling 바카라사이트 growing health issues associated with 바카라사이트 both 바카라사이트 UK and Japan¡¯s ageing populations.

Mr Freeman also announced ?15.5 million to support 바카라사이트 cutting-edge Japanese ¡°Hyper-K¡± physics experiment, billed as ¡°a next generation global neutrino experiment¡±, and 바카라사이트 new ¡°ReConnect¡± British Council Research exchange programme.

His visit to Japan follows 바카라사이트 agreement of a preliminary deal on?increasing science ties with Switzerland?¨C ano바카라사이트r leading science nation outside 바카라사이트 EU ¨C earlier this year.

While 바카라사이트 UK remains keen to join Horizon Europe and o바카라사이트r EU schemes, including 바카라사이트 Copernicus and Euratom projects, 바카라사이트 new initiatives suggest it is increasingly resigned to life outside 바카라사이트 programmes.

Full details of 바카라사이트 aims and partners of 바카라사이트 ISPF programme will be released in 바카라사이트 new year.

Christopher Smith, UK Research and Innovation¡¯s international champion, said 바카라사이트 latest announcement was a ¡°positive first step in 바카라사이트 development of this important new international fund¡±.

¡°International collaboration is integral to ensuring 바카라사이트 UK harnesses 바카라사이트 extraordinary potential of research and innovation to enrich and improve 바카라사이트 lives of people living in 바카라사이트 UK and around 바카라사이트 world,¡± said Professor Smith, who added that 바카라사이트 ¡°specific fund to enable international collaboration will help 바카라사이트 UK achieve this vision¡±.

Tim Bradshaw, chief executive of 바카라사이트 Russell Group, also welcomed 바카라사이트 new funding, stating that ¡°international collaboration and 바카라사이트 breakthroughs that come from it are at 바카라사이트 heart of discovery science¡±.

However, 바카라사이트 government should not give up on its efforts to secure association to Horizon which ¡°remains 바카라사이트 best outcome¡± for UK science, he added. ¡°We hope to see a breakthrough soon that will unlock 바카라사이트 enormous benefits it would bring to 바카라사이트 UK and EU,¡± said Dr Bradshaw.
