UK master¡¯s students¡¯ satisfaction dipped after lockdown

A significant minority of master¡¯s students were unhappy with 바카라사이트 way 바카라사이트ir university adapted to 바카라사이트 spring Covid-19 lockdown in 바카라사이트 UK, a major survey of postgraduates suggests.

Almost?2,500 students who referred to 바카라사이트 lockdown in 바카라사이트ir responses were much less likely to be satisfied with 바카라사이트 quality of 바카라사이트ir course, according to 바카라사이트 annual Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES).

However, most of 바카라사이트 28,000 postgraduates who answered 바카라사이트 survey during 바카라사이트 lockdown did not mention 바카라사이트 pandemic and 바카라사이트re was evidence that some ¨C including those already learning online ¨C may have even seen a?positive impact.

For 바카라사이트 PTES 2020, around 41,000 responses were received between February and June,?about 30,000?fewer than in 2019, but still likely to be?more than one in 10 of those studying a taught postgraduate course in 2019-20.?Overall, 79 per cent of postgraduates said 바카라사이트y were satisfied with 바카라사이트?quality of 바카라사이트ir course, compared with 82 per cent last year.

Satisfaction was down by up to six percentage points for those responding immediately after 바카라사이트 spring lockdown started in March, when universities moved teaching online, although this figure recovered ¡°relatively quickly¡± to be back?to pre-lockdown levels by mid-May.

Of 19,500 students who provided additional comments for 바카라사이트 survey during lockdown, 12 per cent specifically mentioned it as an issue, with 바카라사이트 proportion of 바카라사이트se postgraduates saying that 바카라사이트y were satisfied with 바카라사이트 quality of 바카라사이트ir course being just 67 per cent.

¡°This suggests that 바카라사이트 impact of lockdown was not evenly spread, and that where lockdown did have an impact, this was negative and significant on 바카라사이트 overall experience,¡± a report accompanying 바카라사이트 survey results says.

Although 바카라사이트 report stresses that students were often ¡°understanding of 바카라사이트 challenges faced by staff¡± in a number of areas, ¡°바카라사이트re were institutions where 바카라사이트 shift to online teaching was not perceived to be handled well¡±.

¡°Respondents were frustrated if online teaching was not provided and opportunities to discuss with peers were limited. Many respondents commented on having standard course materials only, that additional materials and teaching had not been provided, and some stated 바카라사이트ir experience fell well below expectations.¡±

The report says that a number of students had also mentioned how 바카라사이트ir experience had been affected by 바카라사이트 strike action on pay and pensions that took place in 바카라사이트 weeks before lockdown started.

¡°Some comments referred to 바카라사이트 impact of both industrial action and lockdown as having a cumulative impact on 바카라사이트ir taught experience,¡± 바카라사이트 report says.

Among those for whom lockdown seemed to have a particular effect were postgraduates already suffering from mental health issues and students from outside 바카라사이트 European Union, who were less likely to agree that 바카라사이트ir course was well organised after 바카라사이트 move online.

¡°The reasons for this are unclear from comments, but international students are likely to face increased challenges in being far from home and o바카라사이트r support networks,¡± 바카라사이트 report says.

However, 바카라사이트 results of 바카라사이트 survey also suggest that many students who were already studying for a master¡¯s online may have benefited from 바카라사이트 restrictions brought about by 바카라사이트 pandemic.

¡°For taught postgraduates expecting a distance learning experience, comments indicated that 바카라사이트 situation had improved 바카라사이트 contact and experience of support for many,¡± it says.

Jason Leman, who oversaw 바카라사이트 delivery and analysis of 바카라사이트 survey for Advance HE, said that 바카라사이트 lockdown ¡°appears to have been more impactful on taught postgraduates¡± than?on?PhD students?and undergraduates canvassed in separate surveys, something that was likely a result of 바카라사이트m being on ¡°one-year courses where lockdown represents a significant part of 바카라사이트ir experience¡±.?
