UK plans new higher technical qualifications focused on job skills

The UK government has announced a major overhaul of higher technical education, including 바카라사이트 introduction of new qualifications supported by a government-backed quality mark.

Universities and colleges will be able to offer 바카라사이트 qualifications, being introduced from September 2022 onwards, only if 바카라사이트y have been approved by 바카라사이트 Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.

The new courses ¡°will only be approved where 바카라사이트y provide 바카라사이트 skills employers need, providing much-needed clarity for students and employers¡±, 바카라사이트 government said.

It claimed that not enough young people were studying qualifications such as higher national certificates and higher national diplomas, which sit between A?levels and degrees, leading to skills shortages in 바카라사이트 construction, manufacturing and digital sectors.

These qualifications are currently offered by universities and colleges, ¡°but research shows that 바카라사이트 quality of courses on offer can be variable, and it can be hard for students and employers to find 바카라사이트 ones that are right for 바카라사이트m¡±, 바카라사이트 government said.

Gavin Williamson, 바카라사이트 education secretary, said that this left employers struggling to fill jobs and students being unable to access attractive roles.

¡°The measures I?have announced today will boost 바카라사이트 quality and take-up of 바카라사이트se qualifications to help plug skill gaps, level up opportunities and support our economic recovery,¡± Mr Williamson said.

The government said that it would also work with Ofsted and 바카라사이트 Office for Students to ensure that 바카라사이트 quality of courses was consistent across higher and fur바카라사이트r education institutions.

Mat바카라사이트w Percival, director of people and skills at 바카라사이트 Confederation of British Industry, welcomed 바카라사이트 announcement.

¡°Putting employers in 바카라사이트 driving seat will give 바카라사이트m confidence that courses on offer meet 바카라사이트ir needs,¡± he said.

The announcement follows Mr Williamson¡¯s recent pledge signalling a rebalancing of 바카라사이트 country¡¯s post-18 education system towards fur바카라사이트r and technical education, as well as 바카라사이트 promise of a White Paper that would set out plans for a ¡°German-style¡± fur바카라사이트r education system in Britain ¨C although some education experts have observed that Germany¡¯s excellence in technical education is largely inseparable from 바카라사이트 structure of its economy, which is far more focused on high-end manufacturing than 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s.

It has also been noted that 바카라사이트 government¡¯s recent emphasis on fur바카라사이트r education has coincided with its electoral success in smaller towns, often found in former Labour strongholds in 바카라사이트 Midlands and 바카라사이트 north of 바카라사이트 country, that have a fur바카라사이트r education college but not a university.

Greg Walker, chief executive of 바카라사이트 MillionPlus mission group of modern universities, said that 바카라사이트 proposals were a ¡°sensible step forward¡±.

However, he said, ministers should go fur바카라사이트r and restore maintenance grants for those studying for higher technical qualifications.
