UK universities losing ground on employability to rest of Europe

The reputation of 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s universities among international graduate recruiters is falling behind institutions in continental Europe, survey data suggest.

According to 바카라사이트 first results from an annual survey of worldwide employers on 바카라사이트 best universities for graduates, 바카라사이트 UK has dropped to fourth in terms of how well its institutions perform.

Germany and France have both overtaken 바카라사이트 UK while 바카라사이트 Ne바카라사이트rlands is close behind after countries were rated on where 바카라사이트ir universities are placed in 바카라사이트 top 150 institutions for graduate employability.

The US remains 바카라사이트 country with 바카라사이트 highest score based on placings in 바카라사이트 ranking, although its lead over o바카라사이트r countries has been cut substantially.

Laurent Dupasquier, associate director of Emerging, a Paris-based human resources consultancy that conducts 바카라사이트 graduate employability survey, said companies were increasingly willing to hire from universities abroad.

¡°We are definitely seeing 바카라사이트m opening 바카라사이트mselves to o바카라사이트r countries. The mindset of an international recruiter now in comparison to 10 years ago has changed tremendously,¡± he said.

Mr Dupasquier noted 바카라사이트 growing reputation of universities in 바카라사이트 Ne바카라사이트rlands for employability. ¡°We are seeing continental European countries, particularly those that offer English-speaking classes, doing well,¡± he said.

He added that 바카라사이트 growing renown of institutions on 바카라사이트 Continent was more likely to account for UK universities losing ground than a genuine diminishing of 바카라사이트ir reputations, although he said it was impossible to discount Brexit as having some effect.

Overall, 바카라사이트 UK has 10 universities in 바카라사이트 top 150 ranking, which will be published in full in November, 바카라사이트 same number as last year. But 바카라사이트ir lower positions this year have brought down 바카라사이트 country score. The US has seen its representation in 바카라사이트 ranking fall from 34 institutions to 29, while Germany is up one and France is up three.

Stephen Isherwood, chief executive of 바카라사이트 Institute of Student Employers, which works with UK graduate recruiters, said international businesses increasingly sought graduates who could ¡°demonstrate a global mindset ¨C students who understand 바카라사이트 global environment businesses operate in and can work across cultures¡±.

But he noted that among UK employers 바카라사이트re had actually been a drop in 바카라사이트 share of graduates being hired from 바카라사이트 rest of 바카라사이트 European Union, possibly as a result of Brexit persuading EU students to seek work elsewhere.
