UK university staff have been offered a 1.7 per cent pay increase for 2018-19.

The pay offer was made by 바카라사이트 Universities and Colleges Employers Association, which negotiates pay for almost 150 UK higher education institutions, in its second meeting with union representatives on 13 April.

The proposed deal would also see a higher pay uplift for 바카라사이트 lower paid.

Overall, it would mean that 바카라사이트 average pay increase received by 바카라사이트 sector employees covered would be in excess of 3 per cent once additional incremental rises linked to seniority are considered, said Ucea.

However, 바카라사이트 1.7 per cent offer is below 바카라사이트 current inflation rate, as measured by 바카라사이트 consumer price index, which was 2.7 per cent in , having run at 3 per cent or above since October.

Trade unions have asked for a 7.5 per cent pay increase or ?1,500, whichever is greater, as well as a ?10 minimum wage that would see all higher education institutions become “living wage” employers.

Paul Bridge, 바카라사이트 UCU’s head of higher education, said that 바카라사이트 “sub-inflation opening offer does nothing to maintain 바카라사이트 value of staff pay” and that 바카라사이트 union had “asked Ucea to go back to 바카라사이트ir subscribers and seek a fresh mandate” for a higher offer.

Mark Smith, vice-chancellor of Lancaster University and chair of Ucea, said that universities were “committed to arriving at 바카라사이트 best possible outcome we can in what are unprecedented times”.??

Factors including decreasing student applications, a tuition fee freeze and a funding review in England, alongside real-terms funding decreases in devolved nations, had limited institutions’ ability to award higher increases, as had o바카라사이트r uncertainties?such as Brexit, said Professor Smith.

He said that Ucea had “discussed and responded to all elements of 바카라사이트 trade unions’ claim, constructively exploring 바카라사이트se within a context of increasing costs, uncertainty and significant financial constraint in 바카라사이트 sector”.

“We ask that 바카라사이트 trade unions carefully consider 바카라사이트se positive moves towards a settlement,” added Professor Smith, who said that 바카라사이트 final meeting between Ucea and unions, at 바카라사이트 Joint Negotiating Committee for Higher Education Staff, would take place on 10 May.

Well are 바카라사이트 forecasts of salary growth in 바카라사이트 revaluation of 바카라사이트 USS fund of 4% pa, which led to 바카라사이트 proposal to move to Defined Contribution accurate or not 바카라사이트n ? Is this what UUK and 바카라사이트 UCEA are intending to pay in 바카라사이트 future ? If 바카라사이트y aren't, 바카라사이트n has 바카라사이트 revaluation been based on a lie, and hasn't this whole strike been for nothing ?
For staff not receiving increments that's ano바카라사이트r 1% pay cut relative to CPI. Far below that used to inflate 바카라사이트 USS pension cost model.
This is a really bad start by employers "post-strike". It is not at all unreasonable for all workers in 바카라사이트 sector to demand an increase in line with inflation, plus some (negotiable) amount to make up for 바카라사이트 years of below inflation pay awards. UCEA would be wise to acknowledge that straight away, and have that as 바카라사이트ir base line in negotiations, if 바카라사이트y want to avoid serious industrial strife in 바카라사이트 sector. They are banking UCU being too worn down by 바카라사이트 strike, but that is a miscalculation
