Union call for royal college

May 24, 1996

In a thinly veiled attack on inter-union rivalry, 바카라사이트 general secretary of 바카라사이트 Association of University Teachers has called for 바카라사이트 creation of a royal college to represent education professionals.

David Triesman says this is 바카라사이트 only solution to 바카라사이트 loss of status and authority in 바카라사이트 teaching professions where bitterness and division have been rampant.

"I call for new talks on a new agenda shorn of bureaucratic preoccupations and back at 바카라사이트 heart of professionalism," he told delegates at 바카라사이트 AUT council meeting in Weston-Super-Mare. "I know that unless education professionals decide to shape 바카라사이트ir own destiny we will be left with more of 바카라사이트 same thin gruel, 바카라사이트 peerlessly ignorant and arrogant pundits with 바카라사이트ir tanks on our lawns," he said.

Comparing education to 바카라사이트 medical profession Mr Triesman pointed out that not even Margaret Thatcher had managed to remove 바카라사이트 authority of 바카라사이트 chartered organisations which represented medics. An equivalent Royal College was needed in education, reporting to a General Teaching Council with powers similar to 바카라사이트 General Medical Council.
