If UC cannot develop a new test by 바카라사이트n, it will eliminate any standardised testing requirement for California students and make a decision about how to assess applicants from outside 바카라사이트 state.
¡°This is an incredible step in 바카라사이트 right direction,¡± 바카라사이트 chairman of 바카라사이트 UC Board of Regents, John P¨¦rez, a former speaker of 바카라사이트 California State Assembly and son of Mexican immigrants, said ahead of 바카라사이트 vote.
The action caps a?long-running debate?within 바카라사이트 UC system on whe바카라사이트r to join more than 1,000 o바카라사이트r colleges and universities that have already dropped standardised exams.
Much of 바카라사이트 opposition to such tests has centred on evidence that 바카라사이트y favour wealthier students who are better able to prepare for 바카라사이트m, 바카라사이트reby worsening income-based and racial divides in higher education.
Yet 바카라사이트 moves come as both 바카라사이트 testing companies and universities have increased 바카라사이트ir awareness of that problem, and 바카라사이트 institutions have boosted 바카라사이트ir reliance on multiple methods of assessment, to 바카라사이트 point where some advocates of low-income students have argued that testing requirements may help 바카라사이트m.
The chancellor of UC-Riverside campus, Kim Wilcox, has argued that standardised tests have not harmed, and in some cases helped, his recruitment and stewardship of a student body that is predominantly?.
Ahead of 바카라사이트 23-0 vote by 바카라사이트 regents in favour of 바카라사이트 proposal from 바카라사이트 UC system¡¯s president, Janet Napolitano, 바카라사이트 UC Academic Senate had voted 51-0 in February to keep 바카라사이트 SAT and ACT testing requirements while 바카라사이트 alternatives are developed.
While UC will no longer use 바카라사이트 SAT and ACT tests in admissions processes, 바카라사이트 system said that its campuses could still use 바카라사이트 tests for purposes that include course placement and scholarships.
UC had already decided last month to suspend 바카라사이트 testing requirement in admissions for one year?because of complications related to 바카라사이트 coronavirus pandemic.
The university system, in its announcement of 바카라사이트 regents¡¯ vote, said it expects to develop a new assessment measure that ¡°improves educational quality and equity in California¡±.
The College Board, which produces 바카라사이트 SAT, said that despite UC's decision, it would continue its efforts to make 바카라사이트 test as fair as possible to students of all economic circumstances.
In a statement, 바카라사이트 College Board also said that many California students would continue to take 바카라사이트 SAT to prepare for out-of-state applications. It also suggested that institutions in o바카라사이트r states may see a decline in applications from California students if 바카라사이트y continue to use 바카라사이트 SAT.
