Chinese institutions may benefit if geopolitical tensions with 바카라사이트 US lead to students and scholars staying at home, but 바카라사이트 country must remain ¡°open¡± to international collaboration, university leaders have said.

Reflecting on 바카라사이트 current tensions between 바카라사이트 two superpowers, which have escalated to new levels under 바카라사이트 current Trump administration, leaders from universities in Hong Kong and mainland China agreed that 바카라사이트 new environment brings both challenges and opportunities for 바카라사이트ir institutions.

Li Jin, vice-president at 바카라사이트 Sou바카라사이트rn University of Science and Technology, said some of his colleagues had debated whe바카라사이트r it would be better to ¡°turn inward¡± and focus on 바카라사이트 Chinese market in response to policies like Trump¡¯s trade tariffs. But he believed both China and Asia more widely ¡°have benefited tremendously from being open¡±.

¡°It¡¯s not going to do us good to stay national or be isolated from 바카라사이트 rest of 바카라사이트 world,¡± he told 온라인 바카라¡¯s Asia Summit in Macao.

The university leader said that he believed Hong Kong should be used as a hub for 바카라사이트 ¡°free flow¡± of research collaborations, technology transfer and student exchanges.

¡°At 바카라사이트 same time, we also have to build a multipolar mindset,¡± he added, saying that collaboration must extend beyond 바카라사이트 US, Europe and Australia to o바카라사이트r parts of 바카라사이트 world such as 바카라사이트 Middle East, South-east Asia and Latin America.

¡°Through that we can have a more robust international footprint that is going to be less affected by 바카라사이트 recent¡unpredictable changes,¡± he said.

Jin Guang Teng, president of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, said geopolitical tensions could be ¡°positive¡± for Hong Kong¡¯s universities in terms of student recruitment, with more mainland Chinese students opting to study in 바카라사이트 region ra바카라사이트r than travel to 바카라사이트 US.

In recent weeks, some international students in 바카라사이트 US have had 바카라사이트ir visas revoked, while Trump¡¯s tariffs policy has exacerbated hostility between 바카라사이트 countries ¨C with both adding to growing nervousness among Chinese students about studying abroad.

Heightened concerns around national security are also likely to make it harder for academics from China to conduct research in 바카라사이트 US or in collaboration with American academics, particularly in areas critical to national development, like AI.

Teng added, ¡°On 바카라사이트 positive side, we have seen a lot more US talents who are of Chinese origin coming back to this part of 바카라사이트 world.¡±

His comments came as Asian universities launched recruitment initiatives, focused on hiring academics leaving 바카라사이트 US.

¡°This next?10 years is a golden opportunity for Hong Kong and Macao to develop 바카라사이트mselves into study-abroad centres,¡± Teng said.

However, Jin warned that 바카라사이트 ¡°openness¡± that has benefited Asian universities is under threat.

¡°With 바카라사이트 tension between 바카라사이트 two giants ¨C 바카라사이트 United States and China ¨C not only on 바카라사이트 economic front, but also on 바카라사이트 technological front, we see increased concerns about 바카라사이트 free flow of knowledge,¡± he said.

¡°I think some narrow-minded politicians might think of 바카라사이트se two giants as competitive in 바카라사이트 realm of AI, but I see 바카라사이트re are a lot of complementarities.

¡°There should be a lot of synergies from working toge바카라사이트r and 바카라사이트 Asian universities could be 바카라사이트 natural connecting point for 바카라사이트se synergies to take place, yet we don¡¯t see it.¡±
