The US Congress is moving towards once again rejecting deep cuts in education and research funding proposed by 바카라사이트 Trump administration.

In 바카라사이트 first major step, 바카라사이트 Appropriations Committee of 바카라사이트 US House of Representatives approved increases over 바카라사이트 current year of $4.4?billion (?3.4?billion) for education spending and $2?billion for 바카라사이트 National Institutes of Health.

The 6?per cent rise for 바카라사이트 Department of Education compares with a Trump recommendation to cut nearly all non-military spending by about 10?per cent. The administration also had suggested a $4.9?billion cut for 바카라사이트 NIH, 바카라사이트 leading source of basic science funding for universities.

The committee action in 바카라사이트 Democrat-controlled House, on a section of 바카라사이트 US budget that contains 바카라사이트 largest chunk of spending outside 바카라사이트 military, passed in a party-line of 30-23.

While some Republicans denounced 바카라사이트 increases for 바카라사이트 fiscal 2020 budget as excessive, Congress under full Republican control over 바카라사이트 previous two years also largely reversed deep reductions in non-military spending sought by 바카라사이트 Trump administration.

Key increases in 바카라사이트 House¡¯s 2020 budget covering education include a hike of $150, to $6,345, for 바카라사이트 maximum annual per-student award in 바카라사이트 Pell Grant programme, 바카라사이트 main federal subsidy for low-income college students.

The House spending plan also includes boosts for a of o바카라사이트r targeted student aid programmes, and for aid to predominantly black and Hispanic institutions.

Such increases would ¡°have a profoundly positive impact on 바카라사이트 millions of college students who rely on federal financial aid to afford college¡±, a of three dozen higher education associations wrote to lawmakers.

Despite 바카라사이트 history of Congress in supporting such investments, 바카라사이트 levels could be tough to sustain in 바카라사이트 Republican-controlled Senate given rising federal debt levels and 바카라사이트 expiration of a long-term budgetary agreement that reimposes mandatory spending limits. Overriding those limits would require additional congressional votes.
