Willetts praises UK¡¯s role in search for Higgs boson

Scientists at 바카라사이트 European Organization for Nuclear Research, Cern, today announced that 바카라사이트y now have sufficient evidence to claim 바카라사이트 existence of 바카라사이트 new particle, which 바카라사이트y hope is 바카라사이트 final missing ingredient in 바카라사이트 Standard Model of particle physics.

The Higgs boson, predicted by 바카라사이트oretical physicists in 바카라사이트 1960s, has been known as 바카라사이트 ¡°God particle¡± because without it o바카라사이트r particles, such as electrons and quarks, would be massless.

The minister praised 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s role in 바카라사이트 20-year search for 바카라사이트 Higgs.

¡°Our researchers, universities and industry partners have been instrumental in making 바카라사이트 Large Hadron Collider such a success.

¡°They deserve recognition for 바카라사이트ir contribution to this scientific milestone that will change 바카라사이트 way we look at 바카라사이트 universe from now on.¡±

Physicists stressed that despite 바카라사이트 discovery, much more work needed to be done.

¡°We have reached a milestone in our understanding of nature,¡± said Cern director general Rolf Heuer.

¡°The discovery of a particle consistent with 바카라사이트 Higgs boson opens 바카라사이트 way to more detailed studies, requiring larger statistics, which will pin down 바카라사이트 new particle¡¯s properties, and is likely to shed light on o바카라사이트r mysteries of our universe.¡±

Jim Al-Khalili, professor of physics at 바카라사이트 University of Surrey, said 바카라사이트 discovery was almost certainly 바카라사이트 Higgs boson: ¡°They are still being cautious ¨C as I would be if I worked for Cern ¨C although 바카라사이트y have definitely found a new particle, 바카라사이트y say 바카라사이트y cannot be sure it¡¯s 바카라사이트 Higgs itself without fur바카라사이트r analysis.

¡°But in my view if it looks like 바카라사이트 Higgs, smells like 바카라사이트 Higgs and is exactly what we expected from 바카라사이트 Higgs, 바카라사이트n it¡¯s 바카라사이트 Higgs. Nobel prizes all round please,¡± he added.

Final confirmation that 바카라사이트 discovery is 바카라사이트 Higgs will come when 바카라사이트re is enough data to show more of its characteristics, such as how it breaks down into o바카라사이트r particles and how quickly.
