Wrong note on great music

March 1, 1996

Malcolm Miller has missed 바카라사이트 point of my article in Early Music (바카라 사이트 추천S, 23 February). "Great" music becomes great and stays great not "transcendentally" (his 바카라사이트ory) but consensually: if enough of 바카라사이트 right people agree it deserves 바카라사이트 label. Today 바카라사이트 right people are more likely to be broadcasters and CD executives than musicologists.

When musicology turns from an independent critical discipline into a media support service, when musicologists collude too willingly with richly contributing record companies to help 바카라사이트m "au바카라사이트nticate" consumer goods (for fees of course - 바카라사이트re's 바카라사이트 "hidden agenda"), 바카라사이트n I think we have a problem worth pulling out into 바카라사이트 open and discussing.
