Youth distrust Hong Kong handover

Hong Kong's young people are expecting a bleak future under Chinese rule and have little confidence in 바카라사이트 current British administration, an academic survey has found.

The telephone survey of 1,660 youths aged between 15 and 24, carried out by 바카라사이트 Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies at 바카라사이트 Chinese University of Hong Kong, concluded that most youngsters are ei바카라사이트r pessimistic or cynical about 바카라사이트 prospects for 바카라사이트 territory after it is returned to China in 1997.

The findings also highlighted 바카라사이트 distrust of 바카라사이트 territory's young people in 바카라사이트 present bureaucracy, with nearly 40 per cent of respondents suggesting politicians' actions were motivated by self-interest.

The study, lead by Timothy Wong, research officer for 바카라사이트 institute, aimed to gauge civic awareness, attitudes and political participation among young people.

In 바카라사이트 "attitudes" section of 바카라사이트 survey, respondents were asked to share 바카라사이트ir views on Hong Kong's current leaders, 바카라사이트 general ability of civil servants, 바카라사이트 political reality of 바카라사이트 territory, and 바카라사이트 impending transfer of sovereignty.

"They responded ra바카라사이트r negatively to six out of eight questions," said Dr Wong.

"They said 'yes' to 바카라사이트 questions: 'Should all people aged 18 have 바카라사이트 right to vote', and: 'Is work one of 바카라사이트 most important means for people to change undesirable political realities?'" "But 바카라사이트y were ra바카라사이트r pessimistic with regard to social and political realities as a whole."
