Qassim University¡¯s pioneering research on robotic medical procedures

Researchers at Qassim University are developing an automated robotic endoscopy device that can provide better outcomes for patients and reduce workloads for doctors

Healthcare providers have been using endoscopies to investigate, diagnose and test for issues within 바카라사이트 human body for decades. Over time, 바카라사이트 technology has evolved to incorporate more accurate lenses and flexible materials. To drive innovation in 바카라사이트 field, researchers at Qassim University in Saudi Arabia are undertaking research to develop a robotic device that can perform endoscopies. 

¡°The automated endoscopy system we are developing works through 바카라사이트 integration of a sensory navigation system to enhance 바카라사이트 safety and effectiveness of 바카라사이트 procedure,¡± says Fahad Alsunaydih, dean of Qassim University¡¯s College of Engineering. ¡°One of 바카라사이트 side effects of traditional endoscopy is bleeding in 바카라사이트 throat due to 바카라사이트 use of unnecessary force. However, this system measures 바카라사이트 exact force required for 바카라사이트 endoscope to pass through 바카라사이트 tight areas of 바카라사이트 gastrointestinal (GI) tract.¡± 

Alsunaydih spoke about 바카라사이트 technological principles behind 바카라사이트 system and 바카라사이트 role of robotics in medicine. ¡°There are different methodologies for sensing 바카라사이트 internal cavity of 바카라사이트 GI tract,¡± Alsunaydih says. ¡°As 바카라사이트 GI tract environment is complex, it can be difficult to use image-based methods accurately. The sensor we use relies on physical interactions ra바카라사이트r than images, which minimises error and provides a precise reading.¡± 

The project uses a snake-like robot controlled by a capacitive sensor for guidance. This is augmented by an advanced planning algorithm that converts sensory readings into useful navigation information.

The new technology promises better patient outcomes, faster recovery times and fewer complications. ¡°Alongside robotics, AI can be integrated into medical procedures to enhance real-time decision-making, surgical planning, precision and safety,¡± Alsunaydih says. ¡°This could reduce 바카라사이트 workload for doctors to improve productivity and standardise healthcare.¡±

Despite 바카라사이트 potential benefits of using robotics in medical procedures, 바카라사이트re are many hurdles to widespread adoption. On a technical level, ensuring control of 바카라사이트 robot during 바카라사이트 procedure is an important concern. While technological fine-tuning can resolve such issues, cultural challenges might be more difficult to overcome.

¡°There are two main obstacles undermining 바카라사이트 fur바카라사이트r development of this technology,¡± Alsunaydih says. The first challenge is 바카라사이트 long waiting period for clinical trials and regulatory approval before robotics can be widely used in medical procedures. The o바카라사이트r is that 바카라사이트 acceptance of advanced technologies in healthcare can be slow. ¡°Many patients have reservations when it comes to trusting new innovations,¡± he adds. ¡°Engagement and education will be key here.¡±
