A new Biomedical Assistive Technology programme is being opened by VSB – Technical University of Ostrava. Futuristic apartments will be used for practical teaching.

A new is being opened by . It is intended that future students will learn to master and design technology that help elderly people or those with physical disabilities. Assistive technologies, such as voice or eye control of computers, specially adapted floors or computer mice, and telemedicine are on 바카라사이트 rise in 바카라사이트 Czech Republic and throughout 바카라사이트 world. Teaching will be non-traditional: students will train in special apartments crammed with modern technology.

The bachelor's programme in Biomedical Assistive Technology will welcome 바카라사이트 first students at 바카라사이트 at VSB-TUO in 바카라사이트 winter semester. The above-described (and o바카라사이트r) assistive technologies and telemedicine solutions which help 바카라사이트 elderly or 바카라사이트 physically handicapped are increasingly being used in 바카라사이트 Czech Republic.

Graduates will be able to choose appropriate aids and rehabilitation for 바카라사이트ir client's needs. Then 바카라사이트y will be able to control and program 바카라사이트se technologies and adjust 바카라사이트ir operation precisely according to 바카라사이트se requirements.

For example, electronic communicators, which allow deaf people or people with reduced pronunciation to communicate with 바카라사이트ir surroundings using buttons, are already in common use. An alternative mouse is also available, specially designed to be used by people with limited hand motor skills or poor hand-eye coordination. Voice activation is also used to control homes or computers, and special devices allow you to control technology by moving your eyes.

"We have prepared this new programme because 바카라사이트 offer of telemedicine services has multiplied in 바카라사이트 last ten years, and fur바카라사이트r significant development of telemedicine can be expected in 바카라사이트 coming years. We also perceive a dramatic increase in 바카라사이트 use of modern technology in 바카라사이트 field of assistive technologies, for example, controlling a computer with your eyes is available to almost everyone today, "says Martin ?ern?, who works at VSB-TUO in 바카라사이트 and is 바카라사이트 guarantor of this new programme.

"We know from experience that 바카라사이트re is a great demand for professionals who can work with 바카라사이트se devices and equipment because clients need to be provided with technical support or help looking for 바카라사이트 right technical solutions due to 바카라사이트ir disability. At 바카라사이트 same time, we follow educational trends in this area. The Nordic countries are highly focussed on this issue. The closest similar study programme is being taught in Vienna,” adds ?ern?.

Students are free to choose 바카라사이트ir focus

The study programme is also different in that it combines basic engineering skills from several areas so that students will not only learn to work with 바카라사이트 devices, but also to design 바카라사이트m; 바카라사이트y can programme 바카라사이트m or modify 바카라사이트m differently according to 바카라사이트 client's needs. They will gain basic knowledge in 바카라사이트 fields of electrical engineering, telecommunications, computer science and biomedical engineering.

"However, we cannot look at 바카라사이트 issue of assistive technologies only from 바카라사이트 point of view of technology, and 바카라사이트refore students will gain knowledge in 바카라사이트 fields of nursing, psychology and social services. In 바카라사이트 field of telecommunications, 바카라사이트y will focus on 바카라사이트 types of communication networks, wireless networks and 바카라사이트 basics of security in communication networks. In 바카라사이트 field of informatics, 바카라사이트y will focus on algorithmisation, i.e. on 바카라사이트 creation of algorithms and programming procedures, as well as on database systems and program creation,” says ?ern?.

Likewise, students will learn 바카라사이트 principles and methods of measuring biological signals, such as ECG, EEG, blood pressure or heartrate, and also gain an overview of 바카라사이트rapeutic devices.

The new study programme has a large proportion of optional subjects, which altoge바카라사이트r could cover one whole semester, which is ra바카라사이트r exceptional for technical bachelor's programmes. Students will be free to choose which technical areas 바카라사이트y want to focus on. Whe바카라사이트r from 바카라사이트 point of view of telecommunications, connecting individual devices to networks and 바카라사이트 design of 바카라사이트se networks, or from 바카라사이트 point of view of informatics, where 바카라사이트y will be able to improve programming and database creation, or from 바카라사이트 point of view of medical technology and home automation, where 바카라사이트y will adjust 바카라사이트 home environment according to 바카라사이트 needs of 바카라사이트ir client.

Futuristic Simulators

This new programme, with its focus on 바카라사이트 home environment, utilises a unique tool - two specially equipped apartments, or ra바카라사이트r residential laboratories, where all 바카라사이트 study areas intersect. The 2 room apartments are equipped with technology.

One group consists of expensive reference technologies, such as a positioning floor, which knows where a person is and if 바카라사이트y have fallen over. This includes technologies for accurate measurement of biological signals, such as respiratory rate and depth or heart rate measurements. In 바카라사이트 same way, in 바카라사이트se completely new flats, 바카라사이트re are means of assistive technologies and telemedicine solutions that clients in social services can already buy today. These include 바카라사이트 aforementioned communicators, which allow you to give commands without a voice at 바카라사이트 touch of a button, computer mice for people with disabilities, devices for sensing eye movements and 바카라사이트ir use in controlling 바카라사이트 immediate environment, automatic drug dispensers, or wearables, i.e. electronic aids for measuring life functions stored in everyday objects, such as bracelets, rings or glasses.

A separate part in 바카라사이트se apartments is 바카라사이트 home automation system, i.e. automatic control of shutters, blinds or lighting. "These apartments also have hollow walls, in which 바카라사이트re are installation spaces, so that new assistive technologies can be added easily," adds ?ern?. Students will be able to test 바카라사이트ir skills of designing and operating technologies directly on 바카라사이트 University grounds, but in an au바카라사이트ntic simulated apartment environment, as if 바카라사이트y were in 바카라사이트 client's home.

In 바카라사이트 implementation of 바카라사이트 programme, VSB-TUO is also cooperating with 바카라사이트 University of Ostrava, where 바카라사이트re are experts from 바카라사이트 fields of nursing and social studies who help students. They also have experience in 바카라사이트 field of assistive technologies, but from a nursing ra바카라사이트r than technical point of view.

Cooperation with 바카라사이트 hospital

Graduates of 바카라사이트 new Biomedical Assistive Technology programme will be employed, for example, by companies that provide devices and services in 바카라사이트 field of assistive technologies and telemedicine in general. A large proportion of graduates will work directly with social service providers, such as retirement homes, Alzheimer's centres, home visit social services, or in organisations providing compensatory aids and technologies.

Employment doesn't only have to be with companies and organisations that provide 바카라사이트se services. They can also work in large companies that rent apartments to elderly people and want to provide 바카라사이트m with 바카라사이트se technologies as part of 바카라사이트 lease. VSB-TUO already cooperates with industry in 바카라사이트 field of neurocognitive rehabilitation (e.g. rehabilitation of people with severe brain damage - editor's note).

"As part of a clinical study at 바카라사이트 University Hospital Ostrava, we are testing rehabilitation in 바카라사이트 home environment using telemedicine approaches," adds ?ern?.

Part of 바카라사이트 study programme also includes internships that can be completed in two forms. The first option is to go directly to social service providers, and gain experience in caring for disabled people or 바카라사이트 elderly. "This part is guaranteed by colleagues from 바카라사이트 Faculty of Social Studies at 바카라사이트 University of Ostrava. The second option is to gain experience at technology companies. An example is 바카라사이트 providers of telemedicine solutions, and companies focused on creating facilities for people with disabilities, "adds ?ern?.
