Established in 1870, St John’s University-New York is a private, Roman Catholic institution in New York City. It is a co-educational university which offers more than 100 programmes of study at undergraduate and postgraduate level, while accelerated courses are also available. It has had degree-awarding powers since 1906.

In 2015, Mullin returned to his alma mater to coach its men’s basketball team, Red Storm.
