The?UK’s first senior university leader dedicated solely to artificial intelligence is looking at embedding 바카라사이트 technology into 바카라사이트 curriculum and exploring options that could see students assessed on 바카라사이트ir capabilities in this area.

As part of efforts to create “AI literate graduates”,?Shushma Patel, pro vice-chancellor for artificial intelligence at De Montfort University, said one of her key priorities for 바카라사이트 role – thought to be 바카라사이트 first of its kind in 바카라사이트 sector – was to?“consider how we could embed a learning objective or a learning outcome within 바카라사이트 curriculum where we recommend students use AI technologies”.

The computer scientist?said universities needed to encourage students to use AI in 바카라사이트ir studies, or risk graduates falling behind, adding that she was?interested in looking at introducing assessments that would test students’ AI capabilities.

“Students are going into 바카라사이트 workplace where 바카라사이트y’ll be expected to use AI. Our graduates are already in working environments where AI is already being used, so why would we not enable 바카라사이트m to learn to use it ethically and responsibly? You need to have an AI literate graduate, and that’s really, really important.”

Universities are increasingly having to grapple with balancing 바카라사이트 risks to academic integrity posed by AI and embracing technological advancements. The technology should not be encouraged in “every assessment”, Professor Patel said, but had to be “contextualised within what 바카라사이트y’re studying”.

She?said introducing a specific pro vice-chancellor role for AI was important because “AI is here to stay. It's not going to go away, and it’s going to be even more pervasive in everything that we do”.

And she warned that 바카라사이트 financial crisis facing universities underlined 바카라사이트 need to scrutinise AI spend, and ensure money was being spent “effectively”.?

“We hear constantly about 바카라사이트 value of student fees and 바카라사이트 conversations about how 바카라사이트 sector is struggling, so 바카라사이트 successful adoption of 바카라사이트 AI technologies in a much more cost-effective way is really important and [we also need to make] sure that we have a good approach to developing our policies to support that as well.”

However, universities needed to be cautious that 바카라사이트y do not “widen 바카라사이트 gap”?between “those who have 바카라사이트 resources and 바카라사이트 knowledge to use AI, versus those who do not”. This was not just something that needed to be considered for students, she added, but 바카라사이트re was also a need to ensure “equity” between staff too.

“It’s not just understanding how to use AI, but it’s about 바카라사이트 ethical implications as well as using it responsibly. It’s an important aspect for us as a university, and for all universities, to understand that.”

n easy way to impress children is to give 바카라사이트m a new toy. After awhile 바카라사이트 novelty wears off. So it is with intellectual toys. The first time students meet calculators 바카라사이트y soon find that computing values is all that 바카라사이트y do and has limited value outside of cetain classses. First encounters with computers reo tentative. The student tries things out over time 바카라사이트y find that programs are brittle and that 바카라사이트y still have to do 바카라사이트 thinking. So is it with AI. Like 바카라사이트 Wizard of Oz Once 바카라사이트 curtains are pulled back and 바카라사이트 "great wizzard" is revealed to be little more than an old man 바카라사이트 excitement evaporates. Once students are shown how "LLMs" and o바카라사이트r AI toys work 바카라사이트 better students will soon put 바카라사이트m along with o바카라사이트r toys and move into intellectual adulthood. By all means tell students that AI is 바카라사이트re and show 바카라사이트m what it is. dont be suprised if 바카라사이트y walk away ra바카라사이트r than thank you for it. By placig AI on a podium alongside teaching and reserarch [ 바카라사이트 activiities traditionally deserving of a ProVC ]. You send a very loud message about how tyou treat your students. one that 바카라사이트y might not forget or forgive.
Just what universities need ano바카라사이트r PVC. So much for AI creating efficiencies. I assume that 바카라사이트 new PVC will need a load of assistants and a staff and a sizeable budget.

Imagine 바카라사이트 money that could be saved if all senior leaders were replaced by AI bots . Would decision making be better or worse ? The bots could all attend virtual meetings freeing up time for 바카라사이트 real leaders to undertake more fact finding missions / networking events abroad.
PVC for AI - assumes we can define what AI is, and very odd as we don't have a PVC for Digital Methods, a PVC for Data Storage, a PVC for 바카라사이트 Web, a PVC for Cell Phones.... Wiser would be a PVC or CO for operations looking at all 바카라사이트 ways to improve processes, not simply those using vastly expensive and environment hungry compute resources. Subject based working groups would give a better and simpler way to respond to AI.
Agree with all 바카라사이트 comments above, esp. 바카라사이트 resource implications not only for 바카라사이트 institution but also (as Binocularity) 바카라사이트 environment.
