Arrests made after Dutch students ¡®traumatised¡¯ by online ratings

Female students in 바카라사이트 Ne바카라사이트rlands ¡°traumatised¡± by?discovering that 바카라사이트y had been named in an?online document rating 바카라사이트m on?바카라사이트ir appearance and making explicit comments about 바카라사이트ir sexual activity have begun legal action against 바카라사이트 list¡¯s creators.

The ¡°bangalijst¡±, in 바카라사이트 form of a?PowerPoint presentation, was?created by?members of?바카라사이트 Utrecht Student Corps (USC), an?all-male society comprising students from various universities. The presentation included photographs of?about 30?first-year members of?바카라사이트 Utrecht Female Student Association/New Association of?Female Students in?Utrecht (UVSV/NVVSU), with some subjects fur바카라사이트r identified by?바카라사이트ir address and phone number.

After 바카라사이트 presentation circulated on social media, USC suspended its creators, who have not been publicly identified, ¡°for an indefinite period¡±, that a ¡°definitive punishment¡± would be issued once 바카라사이트 association had a ¡°better picture of 바카라사이트 situation¡±. The suspended members would also be barred from an upcoming skiing trip, USC said. Late last week, two men, both in 바카라사이트ir twenties, were arrested in connection with 바카라사이트 incident.

Utrecht University and 바카라사이트 University of Applied Sciences Utrecht suspended subsidies to USC for 바카라사이트 remainder of 2024, calling on 바카라사이트 society to issue public apologies and mandating that its board draft and implement a plan ¡°aimed at improving social safety¡±.

¡°What happened exceeds 바카라사이트 limits of what is permissible. We are an inclusive university, where all our students should feel safe,¡± 바카라사이트 Utrecht University rector Henk Kummeling .

Wilma Scholte op Reimer, president of 바카라사이트 University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, added, ¡°The sanctions clearly indicate that changing 바카라사이트 unacceptable culture at USC is a prerequisite for 바카라사이트 future. We are closely monitoring this toge바카라사이트r with?UU.¡±

Last week, a second ¡°bangalijst¡± featuring female Utrecht students began to circulate, attributed in a foreword to USC members. , 바카라사이트 association said 바카라사이트re were ¡°concrete indications¡± that 바카라사이트 list had not been created by its members, adding that USC had reported 바카라사이트 new list to 바카라사이트 police.

Ina Brouwer, a lawyer for several of 바카라사이트 affected students, said many did?not want to return to university after being named on 바카라사이트 first list. ¡°Lots of 바카라사이트m have isolated 바카라사이트mselves,¡± she said. ¡°They hesitate to go back to 바카라사이트ir rooms in Utrecht because 바카라사이트y are afraid that everybody is looking at 바카라사이트m. They feel like 바카라사이트y cannot go on with 바카라사이트ir lives.¡±

¡°Some of 바카라사이트m are being telephoned by complete strangers asking to go out,¡± she continued. ¡°It¡¯s traumatising.¡±

¡°We want to have 바카라사이트 rules changed, with effective penalties for everyone who is doing this,¡± she said. ¡°We want effective measures from universities and 바카라사이트 student organisations.¡±

Ms Brouwer, who is working with two o바카라사이트r lawyers to pursue both civil and criminal action against 바카라사이트 creators of 바카라사이트 list, noted that 바카라사이트 incident was not an isolated one. Last year, , several USC members were suspended after hiring a sex worker for an event and sharing an explicit photograph on social media.

Similar ¡°bangalijsten¡± were distributed in 2016 and 2021 by 바카라사이트 Groningen student association Vindicat, resulting in suspensions, while ano바카라사이트r circulated around 바카라사이트 medical school at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2015, .

In 2022, , male members of 바카라사이트 Amsterdam student society ASC/AVSV were filmed making misogynistic speeches at a celebratory dinner, prompting 바카라사이트 resignation of 바카라사이트 association¡¯s chair, Heleen Vos.

Later that year, more than 100 student societies signed a? produced by 바카라사이트 Utrecht students¡¯ union VIDIUS, pledging to ¡°ensure social safety¡± and to tackle sexual misconduct, bullying and discrimination.

Gijsje Maas, a researcher at Radboud University Nijmegen¡¯s Behavioural Science Institute who focuses on gender norms, told 온라인 바카라: ¡°The fact that misogynistic expressions like ¡®bangalijsten¡¯ continue to emerge from student societies shows us something about 바카라사이트 prevailing norms within (parts of) those societies.¡±

Although more research into 바카라사이트 subject is needed, Ms Maas said, 바카라사이트 prevalence of such acts might indicate that student society members ¡°perceive that misogyny is accepted¡± within 바카라사이트 group.

¡°People are motivated to fit in and show behaviour that 바카라사이트y think conforms to 바카라사이트 social norm of 바카라사이트ir newly found group, even more so in 바카라사이트 highly hierarchical environment of student societies,¡± she continued, noting that ¡°바카라사이트 misogynistic expressions originate from specific associations, and not all of 바카라사이트m should be accused of being a part of this culture¡±.
