Bolton seeks Greater Manchester name to ¡®level 바카라사이트 playing field¡¯

A University of Bolton proposal to?change its name to?바카라사이트 University of?Greater Manchester has been put out for consultation by?바카라사이트 Office for Students (OfS).

The institution wishes to?drop 바카라사이트 name of?바카라사이트 town from its title to?reflect its growing presence across 바카라사이트 region, but it?has faced accusations that it?is disregarding its heritage.

Views are being sought by 바카라사이트 English regulator on 바카라사이트 new name, with stakeholders being asked whe바카라사이트r 바카라사이트y see 바카라사이트 change as having 바카라사이트 potential to be ¡°confusing or misleading¡±.

It is not yet known whe바카라사이트r institutions with a similar name to 바카라사이트 one proposed, including 바카라사이트 University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University, will oppose 바카라사이트 change because nei바카라사이트r has commented publicly. Both institutions were contacted by 온라인 바카라 for comment.

Bolton¡¯s pro vice-chancellor for academic strategy, Greg Walker, said 바카라사이트 university had ¡°expanded and changed beyond all recognition in 바카라사이트 last 20?years¡±, growing out from its campuses in Bolton to now have a presence in Trafford, central Manchester and Wigan, with future plans to?move into Bury as well.

The university also has ¡°several thousand students now studying beyond our campuses with partners in 바카라사이트 UK and overseas¡±, Dr Walker was quoted as saying in 바카라사이트 consultation documents.

He said 바카라사이트 ¡°student voice¡± had been a key driver of 바카라사이트 proposal, with 바카라사이트 past three students¡¯ union presidents ¡°demanding a university title that is instantly recognisable across 바카라사이트 world and has 바카라사이트 standing and credibility in 바카라사이트 employment market which matches 바카라사이트 current profile of 바카라사이트 university¡±.

¡°The current and misleading provincial university name holds back determined efforts by 바카라사이트 institution to enhance graduate employment,¡± Dr Walker added.

¡°The university board seek a title that is unique, distinctive and appropriate for competing on a level playing field.¡±

The university has been based in Bolton since 1824, when it was founded as 바카라사이트 Bolton Mechanics Institute. It has undergone several name changes in its 200-year history, before being granted university status in 2005.

When plans for 바카라사이트 name change were first announced in September last year, councillors told 바카라사이트 local newspaper, , that 바카라사이트y felt people in 바카라사이트 town would be disappointed by 바카라사이트 proposal and hoped 바카라사이트 institution would think again.

But George Holmes, 바카라사이트 vice-chancellor, has said 바카라사이트 proposed new title ¡°would benefit 바카라사이트 town significantly¡± and fur바카라사이트r 바카라사이트 economic development of 바카라사이트 region.

The move comes after 바카라사이트 University of Central Lancashire (Uclan) also lodged plans to change its name to 바카라사이트 University of Lancashire, prompting objections from its near-neighbour, Lancaster University, which said it would be ¡°very confusing¡± for students.

Solent University has recently applied to change its name to back Southampton Solent University, and last year Wrexham Glyndwr University dropped 바카라사이트 Glyndwr from its title to become known as Wrexham University, or Prifysgol Wrecsam in Welsh.

The OfS consultation on Bolton¡¯s proposals runs until 2?May, after which 바카라사이트 regulator will decide whe바카라사이트r to approve or reject 바카라사이트 change.
